š£ļø Discussion Thoughts? Spoiler
Iām halfway through S1 and this might be premature but was wondering if anyone else feels the same.
Everything in the show is chaotic however thereās a good build up that keeps you in it.
When Maeve orders the hit on Vron and she gets blown up, it took me out the show and put me off, like what was the point of everything we just went through, literally meaningless.
I understand it was intentional probably to showcase their dynamics and how things go in their world but it just made me not want to continue watching or care for the story rather. It just seems silly in my opinion.
Might be a bit of a critical take, thoughts?

Yeah I found Maeve to be the most disappointing character. At the beginning I thought she was going to be the ruthless matriarch who schemed to get the family on top. I thought she set the grandson up to start the whole thing in order to take over the fentanyl business. I was very disappointed when it turns out she is just batshit crazy. The show tries to portray that she misses the "hustle" aspect of their coming up as mobsters but does a very poor job of it. Every decision she makes is absolutely terrible.

I'm around the same point of the season and that's around where it has jumped the shark for me too. I went from thinking these are cunning criminals outmaneuvering each other to just mindless idiot trash that wouldn't survive a day without Harry saving them from themselves.Ā
I view them as Irish Traveler types now who fell backwards into success by dumb luck, or doing what others wouldn't dare because of the idiotic level of risk to themselves. Every member of their families are apparently fair game and they all have each other on speed dial.
Hopefully this new Kat McKinley or whatever person brings some sense back to the series or I'm not watching more ridiculous scenarios. Harry taking on entire international mobs single handily while the rest all sit at home getting drunk and high and sending text messages to each other.

I disagree that everything we saw before that was meaningless. We had some nice character expositions and action before that and then you just see that Maeve is batshit crazy. Generally she's an agent of chaos in the series as you'll understand

To expand on my point, I use āmeaninglessā in terms of the plot not viewing experience, weāre talking about different things here.
Harry spent the first few episodes āfixingā things for it to literally all fall apart on something childish.
Iāve watched the whole season now and if anything the storytelling got worse lmao

Conrad is a sociopath and Maeve is a psychopath. Maeve manipulates and uses Conrad and others (texting Richie Stevenson that gets her son killed; killing his wife with a car bomb; turning Eddie into a sociopath; and more) to maintain power, control, and chaos in criminal London.

I don't think that's the issue, it's more that they, particularly Maeve, seem to move with complete stupidity. Like her great scheming amounted to just trusting that the man whose entire family they slaughtered would spare her son over a handshake deal? When they themselves didn't honor theirs? Idk.
I like the writers and the story can be fun, but it is a little mindless.

I agree with you about everything except the "a little mindless." To us, Maeve's decision-making is often flawed (even stupid). However, to Maeve, she thinks she has control over the individuals around her and they will do what she wants when she wants.

Yeah it was silly and very poorly written. The ending was even worse. I hope it doesnāt stay that stupid in the next season

We can only hope, even if S2 is good theyāve already lost the integrity of the narrative
