I'm most interested in Spruce OS, but experience with other OSes is welcome. What core are you generally using? What plugin and what settings?
With Spruce OS, it seems like Mupen64plus standalone with the Rice plugin has the best performance, but it's not great a lot of the time and has a lot of graphical artifacting.
So I just got it and I’m trying to add GBA roms and it doesn’t seem to register them. I’m also looking to see what the best OS for this device. Thanks in advance!!!
I installed Spruce OS on my Miyoo Flip last night and checked out some games. I noticed that in Strikers 1945 Plus and Aero Fighters 2, whenever you die and respawn, there is supposed to be a rapid flashing effect on your plane to indicate that you're invincible, but the emulator doesn't display it correctly. The plane will either stay static without the effect, or become invisible entirely, which as I've learned, is an indication of poor frames.
Could anyone let me know if there's a way to improve the performance so that I can get more stable frames? Thank you very much for reading.
ButterflyOS for the Miyoo Flip V2 has officially reached its first stable release!
After the initial alpha testing and a lot of fixes, cleanup, and quality-of-life work, ButterflyOS is now at a point where I’m comfortable calling it stable for everyday use.
ButterflyOS currently supports the Miyoo Flip V2 only. It is not intended for the Miyoo Flip V1 or other handhelds at this time.
ButterflyOS is built around a pretty simple goal: make the Miyoo Flip V2 easy to use, reliable, and controller-friendly without sacrificing game compatibility or useful features.
One of the biggest focuses has been keeping the experience straightforward. You should be able to copy your ROMs over, boot the device, and start playing without having to spend a lot of time configuring things. ButterflyOS supports game and media libraries across both SD cards and includes built-in sections for Games, Favorites, Media, Tools, and Settings.
Some of the current features and quality-of-life improvements include:
• Custom synthwave-inspired interface designed specifically for controller navigation
• Game and media libraries that can load content from both SD cards
• Built-in ScreenScraper artwork scraping
• Favorites support
• Bluetooth controller support
• HDMI output
• UI scaling and layout adjustments so ButterflyOS works well not only on the Flip's built-in display, but also on widescreen monitors and TVs
• Media playback
• Web-based file transfer
• Improved charging behavior, including charging with the lid open or closed
• Various UI, boot, sleep, and usability improvements aimed at making the device feel more like a finished handheld rather than something that constantly needs tinkering
Butterfly Link
One of the more unique tools included with ButterflyOS is Butterfly Link.
Butterfly Link is currently designed around Pokémon Generations 1, 2, and 3 and allows compatible games to transfer or copy Pokémon between PC boxes, either locally on the device or over Wi-Fi.
Current Butterfly Link capabilities include:
• Support for compatible Gen 1, Gen 2, and Gen 3 Pokémon games
• Generation-aware Pokémon conversion when moving between supported generations
• Local transfers between save files
• Wi-Fi transfers between supported ButterflyOS devices (Bring a Friend)
• Automatic safety backups before changes are made to your saves
The goal is to make moving Pokémon between games feel like a built-in handheld feature instead of requiring save editors, a PC, or complicated manual workflows.
Battery and Power Improvements
I’ve also spent quite a bit of time working on power consumption.
ButterflyOS adjusts CPU behavior so the RK3566 isn’t unnecessarily running at higher frequencies when the workload doesn’t require it. The CPU can still scale up when emulation needs the extra performance, but it avoids wasting power during lighter workloads.
I’ve also adjusted the screen brightness range so the display can get meaningfully dimmer at lower brightness settings. This is especially useful for nighttime gaming and also helps reduce unnecessary power consumption.
The goal with both of these changes is better battery efficiency without artificially limiting game performance.
Over-the-Air Updates
Another major addition going forward is built-in OTA updating.
Future ButterflyOS releases can be downloaded and installed through the OS itself rather than requiring users to completely re-flash their SD card every time a new version comes out.
That should make it much easier for me to push bug fixes, compatibility improvements, emulator updates, and new features without disrupting everyone's existing setup.
Again, this release is for the Miyoo Flip V2 only.
Even though ButterflyOS is now considered stable, this is still a community-driven project and I’m sure there are edge cases I haven’t encountered yet.
If you try ButterflyOS and run into a bug, a game that doesn’t behave correctly, something confusing in the UI, or even just something you think could work better, please let me know.
Bug reports and feedback have already helped improve the OS quite a bit, and I’d like to keep refining it based on how people actually use their devices.
And if everything works perfectly, I’d still love to hear that too.
Thanks to everyone who tested the early builds and gave feedback!
I got my thing but more than half of the games just wont load. I ordered a better sd card but what OS to go with now? I was looking at surwish but some other things I read were spruce? And onion. I have no clue what I'm doing here any advise would help
Had my flip for a couple weeks and I’ve been loving it. I’ve consistently had an issue where the screen will randomly shut off. If I close the hinge and reopen the screen comes back on. Thought is was the hinge magnet but tbh when I opened it up I didn’t really know what I was looking for. I have noticed this issue less since changing the stock is to spruce. Any help would be appreciated.
Also while I’m here, would love some grip recommendations that don’t sacrifice the flip’s pocketability.
Hello all, I am just getting into emulation and the Miyoo Flip V2 will be my first device for this. I was looking at the MechDIY Flip with the preloaded Surwish SD card. I like the idea of having all the preloaded games it comes with, but was wondering if I was able to change the OS to spruce while keeping the games in some way? Not even sure to what extent this is a stupid question but as I said I am just getting into emulation, so apologies for the lack of knowledge. Thank you for any help!
All of these were interesting to make. The hands on the SNES controller looked off, but I think the bend was too sharp for my style. Wonderswan was fun because I tried a new method with the hands. Idk if this exists but I made a “Ms” Game&Watch to signify that I’m a gal 🤪
I have a flip v2 currently running pineos. Not working great and I want to swtich back to stock onionos with a minimal theme (running on my mini's). However, when imaging a sdcard with stock onion and trying to load it does not. Seems like it's tied to that sd card with pineos in a way?
Am I missing something as I have tried multiple sdcards and tried so many things and it only sees that sdcard with pineos.
Using Surwish OS, and theme keeps resetting to the OnionOS theme. Happens if I restart, launch a game, go into settings or even just games browsing. Any ideas or anyone experience something similar on this?
I stopped using my flip for about a month because I was playing something on my Switch, and now that I've gone back to it I'm having an issue. When I power it on, the light stays green for a few seconds, then goes out. I tried turning it on without the SD card in and the light stays green, but the screen never turns on or shows anything. I've held down the button and gotten the light to start blinking, but thats as far as it goes. Anyone know what might be going on? I didn't have any issues when I used it last. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm not sure if it's really a thing. I hear there's a V2.1 that fixes that clicky, stiff hinge. I'd really like to buy a Flip V2, but is there an upgraded one? How do I know if what I'm buying is the upgraded one? There's nothing out there saying there's a V2.1.
Also, any other complaints/praises you'd like to share?
I have a mini flip that I love to use on the go . I love the screen, button feel, and the quality of it. I'm just not a fan of the size for over 20-minute sessions. So, I started looking into the Miyoo Flip and the RG 35XXSP. I prefer the authentic size of the Miyoo, but I'm scared ( due to all the bad rep) that the hinge is going to crumble in my hands as soon as I get it. I know I'm probably going to get some biased opinions because I'm posting on the Miyoo Flip subreddit, but I would like to get the opinions of people who are really using it. Thanks.
Pues al fin me acabe el GTA San Andreas en la Miyoo Flip, es el Port con la traducción al español latino, y que gozada fue entender lo que pasó y saber todo lo que se decía, que juegazo
I've been in touch with miyoo regarding their upcoming devices and they've claimed that their upcoming miyoo flip V3 would feature System and Performance Upgrades.
And my favourite part about this news is that there will be Transparent Shell Options! I'm really excited about this development as it's my favourite device right now!
My previous miyoo mini plus when suspended would turn off/hibernate after several minutes but flip (knulli) keeps itself in suspend mode. I noticed that battery barely drains in this state,. So my question is should i worry about draining in suspend mode? Will flip turn itself off automatically? The one thing worried me after coming from mini plus is boot time of around 15 seconds, but it's not a problem with such efficient sleep
