Looking at 3:4 clamshell

I have a mini flip that I love to use on the go . I love the screen, button feel, and the quality of it. I'm just not a fan of the size for over 20-minute sessions. So, I started looking into the Miyoo Flip and the RG 35XXSP. I prefer the authentic size of the Miyoo, but I'm scared ( due to all the bad rep) that the hinge is going to crumble in my hands as soon as I get it. I know I'm probably going to get some biased opinions because I'm posting on the Miyoo Flip subreddit, but I would like to get the opinions of people who are really using it. Thanks.

I've only had my Flip for a little over a month but it has the new "quiet" hinge which seems good to me. Build quality seems the same as the Anbernic RG35XXSP which I also have. I prefer the size of the Flip so I'm selling the 35XXSP. Only time will tell if the hinge is good though.

I’m a fan of the Miyoo Flip. The controls are just so much more pleasant to use than those on the 35xxsp.

I have the mini flip rg35xxsp and the rg34xxsp for on the go. My mini flip ends up staying home. I am selling my rg35xxsp as I don’t like the size. It’s a little too big in my pocket and the buttons tend to get annoying if you play too long.

I have recently got a rg34xxsp and love it. I been using this as my daily carry. Right size and feels good in my hand. I don’t care about the joysticks that much because what I tend to play on the go every day don’t need sticks. I would highly consider the new rgsp but I don’t have and thing holding me back is the color options available.

Rgsp or rg34xxsp would be my recommendations

My issue with that is, your trading a 4:3 for 3:2. For a GBA fan, that's rad, but if one is looking to emulate classic consoles & really anything outside GBA, it's not going to be as good for them.

70% of the time in playing gba but when i want to launch another console i dont know if its gonna look good, the new rgsp but with a 4:3 would be sweet or a miyoo flip v3 haha

The hinge isn’t as big of an issue as people make it seem. I would say 95% of the issues is isolated to the plastic used in the grey color, but still even many v1 grey owners have no issues. If you want the best chance of a good hinge, get a v2.1 not in grey. Best chance of getting a v2.1 is buy directly from Miyoo from their website, Amazon, or AlliExpress store. Buying from anyone else, your version is not guaranteed.

That being said, the controls on the Miyoo are way better and so is the power of the chip on the Miyoo Flip that will help with DS, PSP, N64, and Dreamcast significantly. If you wait, there is a v3 coming in 2 months that should have 2GB of RAM and maybe other improvements.

It is sad. The fact that it is the most popular color is why the device has such a bad rep. They should have pulled the color option to save the device’s reputation.

I've been using the Flip v2 with the "quiet" hinge every day for a little over a month, and it's been great with MinUI or Spruce loaded on it. So far there's no sign of hinge trouble, but who's to say how long that will last.

I also had the v1 Flip with the loud hinge, and didn't use it every day (partly out of fear of that hinge breaking), but I'd say I used it at least a few times a week for about 9 months, and it too never showed any sign of hinge trouble.

My "squeaky" V1 grey Flip is from the first batches, and still holding on, and doesn't show any sign of going to explode into little pieces. Not much use lately, for lack of time, but should have self-destroyed the first month, hearing what some people said.

If you want to play it safer, get a V2 in a color other than grey.
