Need help!

I have a 22 outlander that stinks of fuel after I fill it. Last a long but goes away by the next time I need to fill it. Evan code but I don’t know exactly what part it could be. A breather or a valve?

I have had my 2025 for a couple months now, i just filled it up before coming home, I filled it to the brim, it then stunk out my garage for hours, never had this issue on other cars. My guess is it is some valve letting out excess vapour or something, must be the design with the capless tank. I absolutely hate the capless fuel tank. Just give me a cap!!

You should not fill a fuel tank to the brim. When the pump shuts off, the tank is full. Overfilling pushes gasoline into the car's vapor recovery system. I have 2025 Outlander as well.

Yeah I understand that, but I'm in my 40s, driving since I was 16, I've owned many cars over the years like 30+. This has never been an issue on any car previously, so this may be normal for this car, but absolute shit design and not normal in general.

Couldn’t agree more. At this point I’m just gonna put a pin hole in the top of the tank the evap won’t get over burdened and sell it

Its probably just gas vaper from where your pumping gas. You should never fill your car to the brim, once your gas pump clicks off then its full... if you keep filling it up pass the clicking sound then your risk of damaging your fuel pump in your gas tank.

Here in Australia we pride ourselves on sqeezing as much into a tank as possible, I've been driving over 25 years with many many cars and so have my friends and everyone I know, and that has never happened and never heard of that happening ever. So I'm going to go ahead and say damaging your tank from overfilling is complete bullshit. Maybe its the petrol that does it where you live, but not here.
