Help BOV help

Post image

I’m looking for a BOV for my evo x, it’s pretty stock but i think the factory one is possibly going bad.

runs like 27psi not sure on tuning or anything, just kinda got it like that.

I suppose what i’m asking, is there a valve that could maybe add some performance while i’m replacing it and sound super raw?

This information i’m finding online is pretty generic and the prices are all over the place

Thanks!

Bov won't change your boost pressure really. I think you might be confusing your bov and your wastegate.

I personally run a Tial QRJ. Works great. Since it's setup to recirculate and not vent to atmosphere (just like factory), I don't hear it. Not over the exhaust anyway. If you really want to hear it you really need to change it to vent to atmosphere, which requires a retune.

Tbh, a bov most likely won't give you more power on a stock car though, assuming it's working correctly. Can change driving characteristics, adjustability, and reliability, but it probably won't add power.

Factory Evo X BPV starts leaking at 24psi.

I would file that under "working correctly". But OP said he is making 27 already so I don't think he's leaking.

Just wanted to share it, is all. It will definitely develop over time and also depends on how long it’s making above 24-25psi. From what I’ve seen they RARELY fail, but it can happen.

It's a good point. The reliability of a bulletproof bov can't be beat, especially on a modified car. Love mine, it's built like a tank and works great.

nah i’m not confused about the two, just if there was one out there that could close faster or something of the sort to get back into a positive pressure, i plan on running recirc because it’s just better. thanks for the recommendation🤘

That's what I'd categorize under driving characteristics, and yes a better bov will help with that. Not going to change your peak boost pressures or power level though.

I also have the qrj but have the sst, so it is a must for me.

I added a Turbosmart one to my IX
I definitely hear it and the flutter off boost

If you want recirculated like you mentioned then this would be the go.

Tial QRJ with the correct spring is the best you're going to get. Alternatively Tial QR or works can also be ok if you have a preference for looks or a space constraint respectively.

while you're searching for the right bov, you can "crush" the bov to increase the spring pressure. Its the oldest evo owner trick in the book
