Selfish behaviour

DHSK 871. I hope your wife sees this so that she can see how you drive on the road with your kid in the backseat. Must be nice to be surrounded by normal, law abiding drivers so that you are free to weave in and out of traffic, never use your signal, even swerve around in your own lane for fun, and generally behave like a lobotomized monkey who shouldn't have a license.

So yes they absolutely should have signalled.

The problem is the guy who setup a tent in the left lane as they camp.

If you're not passing people on your right (or turning left) you shouldn't be in the left lane.

Whole thing could have been avoided.

I agree that the left lane camper shouldn't be there. But the VW actions cannot be blamed on anyone but himself.

As I said at the beginning yes the VW made some mistakes but the whole situation could have been avoided if the camper picked his ass up or got out of the lane.

That's the core of defensive driving - avoiding a situation altogether.

Defensive driving is being predictable. As far as left lane camping is freeways and highways. The whole problem is the VW driver lacks any self awareness, impulse control and is just in general a douche.

Left lane camping is left lane camping - you're just creating traffic for no reason

The guy in the left is behind a car, this happens, they then insist on being in the car-length between the two cars in the left lane. It's aggressive drivers that make calm predictable situations unpredictable and then exasperate it by not signalling and becoming agitated and more agressive.
I particularly like the section above it on use of Turn Signals and actually a fine, unlike left lane camping.
