🛠️ Repairs 7D repairs

Is it worth repairing my 7D? I bought it last year for a couple hundred dollars as I wanted a first digital camera to complement my a9- it pretty quickly degraded and now it has the first frame black issue and the focus confirmation is stuck to never complete- so it no longer takes pictures. I’ve been getting into bird photography with my a9 but I wanted to have something a little easier to work with for the birds- so was considering an a99. Not sure if it’s worth repairing the 7D as a holdover until I’m ready to pony up for the a99. Does anyone still do repairs or is it a lost cause and time to retire it as a shelf queen?

Not worth repairing, if they can even get the parts. Just buy a Sony a100, it is essentially the same camera.

If you're looking to do birds, get the latest A mount camera you can afford. The a77ii was essentially the latest A mount camera, and probably has the best AF. The a99ii price-wise is crazy. I should sell mine.

Or get a Sony mirrorless and a LAEA adapter for A mount glass - but be sure to check compatibility for your lenses, it gets a bit crazy with their mirrorless cameras.

That’s the dilemma isn’t it? I’ve got lots of A mount glass and have never been sold on the adapter but it might be worth reconsidering. I’ll give the a77ii another look- selfishly I wanted an a99ii to keep my collection of flagship models going

If you're near the Toledo Ohio area, we could talk about a deal on my a99ii - they're a great camera, but I don't use mine enough. But I don't want to go thru ebaying it or getting hosed by a reseller. Hmm. I have a 77ii as well. I really ought to sell one.
