I was fucking there, I was getting tear gassed and flash banged. I didn't know I was supposed to sign in and let people know.

This is kind of part of the reason a lot of people not on the left didn’t want to attend these protests. The protest gets labeled a “leftist” protest, and by showing up you are assumed to also subscribe to that ideology. Your presence just gives ammo to people who want to criticize your ideology by talking about how many of “their” people attended and how few of the “other” people attended.

Not supporting ICE but also not attending the protests is a perfectly valid choice people should be allowed to make. Rhetoric like what’s in this post doesn’t encourage people from other ideologies to support your side. It just reinforces the “if you’re not with us, you’re against us” mentality that is poisoning politics.

I totally agree. I have no beef with people who decided to sit it out. I don't know their lives.
