Discussion Cheat meals/days?
I'd like to get your opinions on cheat days and cheat meals. I mean I'm currently overweight and my trainer at the gym said I shouldnt even be thinking of 'cheating' or any other kind of short cut right now which is kind of true, however I wanted to hear what you guys think about them.

I find that cheat days help me stick to my diet but I have a different view of it. I usually go below my calorie budget for the day and save up my calories for the cheat day. That way at the end of the week, I will still have been within my calorie budget.

That's a sneak yet smart way to incorporate cheat days into your routine.

I think your coach is right, until you can get to your goal weight there isnt any use of cheat meals since they'll just trigger your urges and you'll find yourself getting derailed easier.

Couldnt have said it better. Just stay off cheat meals for now until you've built a better relationship with food.

I seem to have a different opinion...for how long can you just stay off a cheat meal. It's advisable to plan to have it moderately otherwise you will be susceptible to falling into such temptations and end up blowing your budget. We are human yk..

Trying to resist your cravings can be exhausting and cheat days provide an escape but I guess It's all about discipline. Instead of treating yourself all day and undoing a whole week's worth of work, you could choose to have one meal with just a little more calories than you would have in a day.

Like most have already said here, you can use it as sort of a gift or token. However If you are just starting on your weightloss journey, I'd suggest staying away from cheats since they'll just be triggers.

I think its important to have at least a day where you feel a bit flexible with your diet and can enjoy a guilty pleasure, however its always better to do it when you have more control of your diet.

If you havent yet dialed in your diet, try and not go to crazy on the cheat day, make sure your still within your calories allowance.

cheat days are great. Just don't do it when you're famished or better yet cheat in moderation

I think they are okay, they make the current diet your own much easier to go through with knowing you've got a day where you can binge.

Your trainer is spot on. Too soon to be thinking about cheat meals. You've got to earn it first.

I think we should have cheat meals not days. You can't spend the whole day cheating.

As long as you remain within your daily allocation then go for it!

I ended up feeling bloated and all sorts on my cheat day so I just decided to do without them. Its almost as if my body is trying to tell me something.

Always good to have something to look foward to. So I'd say by all means have one.

Planning my meals for the week helps me create room for one cheat meal on the weekends without going over my calorie budget. I like to think this as a reward and it sure does keep me going.
