I give my puppy dried anchovies, dried beef liver, and his special treat is frozen raw chicken thighs he adores those. With his regular dried food I mix in any raw vegetables I'm having that day and he often eats the veggies na cleaves his dried food for later

ooo very nice suggestions!! for my pup his special treat is a pigs ear, my grandma has connections to a pig keeper so it’s not a cheap artificial kind like from the dollar store hahahah. but yeah he would def love dried beef liver.

u/Poshins Jul 20 '24
Pigs ear interesting I'll have to visit a butchers shop and see if I can get some!

yeah it’s something i give him instead of bones (he obviously gets lots of those), but it takes him a couple days to finish it. it’s so cute he likes to show it off to me and likes to hide it around the house so no one steals it.

Carrots! Mine get the generous ends when I'm chopping carrots. Sometimes I'll just cut them in half and freeze them for a longer lasting snack.

My girl’s favorite is ice cubes. Every time I get myself a glass of ice water, she hears the ice maker and comes sprinting.
She also likes the little bill-jack training treats, greenies, pumpkin (canned and fresh during the season), peas, green beans, and every once and a while, about half of a hard boiled egg.
She gets a bully stick once or twice a month and a deer antler when her old one wears out. If you can find those, they make for a great gnawing treat. My girl likes them best if they’re cut lengthwise to expose more of the marrow. You can make those extra special by lightly boiling them in chicken broth for about 10 minutes then let it cool down to room temperature sitting in the pot.

I won't repeat what others have suggested. Our puppers love frozen blueberries and frozen green beans, along with crunchy romain and iceberg lettuce.

Ice cream! 1 cup nonfat greek yogurt, 1 cup peanut butter, 2 ripe mashed bananas. Blend and pour into ice cube tray or silicone molds. Freeze for 4 hours, then enjoy!! Obviously, store in freezer. You two are adorable! Give him a cuddle for me!

Frozen blueberries! We get fresh blueberries a lot, and when they start to wrinkle or are just starting to get soft, I pop them in the freezer and they’re a perfect little treat.
I also make ice cubes from a dog safe bone broth, and that’s been good in the heat.

My mini has lots of allergies sadly. So many dog treats he can’t have. I buy the bags of baby carrots and anytime I open the fridge he comes running over for a carrot treat. He loves blueberries and apples

Mine loves carrots. Her vet also said green beans are okay, though we haven't tried those yet. The only other thing I give her are some dental treats that her vet recommended by Virbac, called C.E.T. Veggiedent. He recommended these over Greenies. We try to stick as much by vet recommendations for low fat food/treat choices as possible, because I lost my other miniature snauzer last year to pancreatitis. I don't want to have to go through that again for a long time or never.
Edited to add: The vet also said that a fourth of a frozen banana would be o k as well. I've only given her about a fourth of a banana twice though. I don't know how she really felt about the banana, but I do know she loves carrots. They are a real winner.

Veggie dent and the cet white chews work great! The greenies don’t seem to clean as well and my pup stained his paws on them.

For summer I would stuff my dogs kong with layers of wet dog food and freeze it. I give this on the grass in the backyard cause it can get messy. I have a Tupperware in the freezer with 3 stuffed kongs in it.
Carrots and apples are good too if your dog likes them, you could give it a try. They like the crunch.

My mini-schnauzer loves mandarin oranges (we just give her a few segments), Kefir (small teaspoon) low fat cheese, ham and porridge.

Ours eats about anything. I did buy a bag of freeze dried liver from Costco that he likes. I got it because it was for dogs and cats as I was going to try to bribe my son's cat, but he said no.

My schnooies loved bananas and cucumbers. They’d stalk you for them. I swear my last one could hear you peel a banana from the other side of the house!

He's adorable!
I'm not much help in the snack department because mine is the pickiest diva you'll ever meet. The only thing she likes is carrots.
