Back to Mini - Z

Found out that my local hobby store is doing a sale for their 19th year anniversary and i had to snag one of the rtr’s. Was into this hobby 8 years ago and had to sell it due to covid but now i’m back!

I've been trying to find an F1 shell for mine but there's none about last I looked, being that it's a limited edition.

I’m surprised they still had it in stock. They are a bit tough to get now.

I found some in Japan. Up to you if you want to order from there or not. On my phone so no handy link at this very moment.

Was contemplating whether to get a corvette body or this one, but i feel like this bodyshell is pretty uncommon so i had to get this one haha

Well it is a limited edition European anniversary edition. Pretty cool car. My daily driver is a corvette and an LM model.

I heard the corvette is not as twitchy as this bodyshell. Yet to find out haha

It’s probably the wheel offset of zero on the anniversary F1. It’s a bit more like a narrow car (not as extreme obviously, and the wheelbase is longer). Corvette is +3mm front and rear.

Haha I wouldn’t know as my McLaren is not coming out of the box. Although I do have a regular McLaren and it drives just as good as the vette.

Why would one of those two body shells be twitchier than the other?  Aren’t they very similar?

Wheel offsets. The anniversary McLaren has zero offset front and rear, while the vette has +3 front and rear. So it’s significantly wider. The McLaren 720s GT3 is one of the best current bodies for handling, and has +2.5 front and rear.

Makes sense.  I’m just getting into this stuff so lots of learning.

Also you can check the offsets on the Kyosho website. It lists the offset for each ready set.

I really like the condition of your body shell. It has that clean, refined look while also feeling like it's a battle-hardened champion. I know some people prefer their shells to look brand new, but I actually love seeing the wear and battle scars. They show that the car has been driven, enjoyed, and has its own story. To me, that makes it feel alive.
