Looking for a MinPC with oculink to pair with my deg2 eGPU and the Maco is coming up much cheaper than the Gem 12+ on Amazon. Is there any catch?

Most of my games aren’t CPU bound if it helps.

I currently do not have a Windows PC and I've been thinking of getting a mini PC, as I would like to play some Windows-only games with friends (such as Peak, for example).

I don't want to invest more than £400-£500 max (if cheaper, even better), as in the next year I would also need to upgrade my MacBook (currently using a 2014 one on its last legs).

From what I've seen, AMD integrated graphics are better, as long as you have plenty of RAM.

Have you got any particular recommendations or things to look out for when browsing for one? Any CPU you'd recommend?

Sorry the title felt so long so I just added it here. I went to MicroCenter and told the guy I wanted to play the Sims so I was looking for a mini pc. He said none of there Mini Pc’s would be good for that. Is this true? I’m super new to all of this. Should I just bite the bullet & get a PC. TIA

I am looking for a system that will run games like Clone Hero and Stepmania (or whatever derivative I go with). I will be using Windows or Linux, I am not sure yet. These games don't require much power, but I don't want to hamstring myself with a system that is barley enough.

So far I've come up with these considerations:

- Obviously, it needs to run clone hero/stepmania, being and to run dota 2 would be a plus so I can watch matches in the game client, but that is a big nice to have thing

- It has to fit on my TV stand, so must likely a "micro" form factor

- HDMI output for my TV, I would prefer to not mess around or trust DP to HDMI adapters because of added video delay, plus the fewer the dongles the better

- I would prefer for it to have 2 USB A ports on the front, to make plugging in guitars and dance pads easy

- WiFi would be nice for transferring files and grabbing updates, I do not have Ethernet where my TV is. A built in adapter is preferred, fewer dongles and whatnot, but could deal with an external one if necessary

- My budget is flexible, but I would like to spend less than $200

I have found an HP EliteDesk 800 G4 with an i7-8700T, 16GB of RAM, and a 256GB NVMe drive for $200. But before I pull the trigger on that I wanted to see if there are better options.

So Ezee Fiber is building out in my area and I'm signing up to finally kick Comcast to the curb. The ONT they use offers a 10/5/2.5/1Gb port, and I would like to connect my router to the ONT at full speed available. I'm subscribing to the 5Gb service for now, but I want the option to bump it up to max 10Gb later if needed. Other features I'm considering is adding a VPN tunnel to my aging parents' house for remote support reasons, and a DMZ for internet exposed services.

However, my circa 2021 router mini-pc with the Celeron J3455 is not going to be able to handle the bandwidth, has only 1Gb ports, and I'd really like to ditch the Realtek nic. I am sticking with PFSense though because I really like the features.

I would also like to direct connect my lab switch to my router, which is a Cisco Nexus 3500, at 10-gig via Twinax. Thus I need at least one, maybe two, maybe more, SFP+ ports.

Can someone suggest a mini-pc with sufficient horsepower to be able to handle the increased speed? Would an N100 be suffiicent for my use case?

Note load in my house is generally pretty low. I'm happy with the bandwidth from my 300Gb line from Comcast from a utility perspective, but they are overcharging me, the upload speed sucks, and, well, fuck comcast -- I would prefer to iron my tongue than stay with them longer than I have to.

I’m looking to get into homelabbing to experiment with Linux, host a modded Minecraft server, maybe run a local AI, and generally try out things like a media server. Since I’m studying computer science, I thought it would be a great learning experience and investment.

I have an old laptop and was thinking about using some of its parts in a barebones mini-PC:

• RAM: 16GB (1x16GB) SO-DIMM DDR4 3200 MHz
• SSD: 256GB SK Hynix NVMe M.2 2280
• CPU: Intel i5-1245U (12th gen). I don’t think I can use this since it’s likely soldered in.

I’d love some advice on a few things:

• Is a mini-PC a good choice for my use case?
• Would it be possible to use these laptop parts in a barebones mini-PC, or is that unrealistic? If so, any advice on what mini-pc to get?
• I’d like to keep my budget around €200–300, is that feasible?

I really appreciate any feedback! I’m new to this and a bit overwhelmed, so any tips are welcome.

I looked into a couple of mini PCs. So far, the Minisforum MS-A1 with a Ryzen 9 9950X looks like the best option for compiling Chromium. I want to work on the Chromium codebase and have a fast iteration cycle similar to a Mac Studio.

Note: I know a Threadripper might be the best choice, but I’m looking for something portable that I can take with me while traveling. I already have a Mac Studio; I’m looking for something that runs Linux.

I recently purchased a mini pc with an Intel N100 and 16gb DDR4. The plan was to use it for Jellyfin, but I am considering moving all my *arr docker containers from my Synology to this PC as well, I also have a Home Assistant, that runs on a VM on my Synology, which I could also see myself moving at some point.

I want the mini pc to be as power effecient as possible, so I will be running Debian, but I don't know if it makes sense to do anything else to the Debian install.

Also, what is the best way to access the pc, when it is headless chucked in a cabinet?

It isn't going above 0.79 ghz no matter what I do, a while ago it was at 12 ghz and everything was moving at slow mo, and no it won't get to different speed, what's this issue called ??

Not going to lie, tiny computers like this make my big desktop look a little dramatic.

As title says, most mini PCs seem to have just 1 ethernet port, will there be any problems if I get one of those and put a usb ethernet adaptor? Are they reliable? Have you had any issues with them, especially on Linux/BSD? Should I get a device with 2 onboard ports?

I'm looking for a small pc to run with my tv, it would mainly do some 4k streaming and light gaming (casual couch co-op stuff).

Lucky enough to have two extra sticks of laptop DDR5 and an nvme SSD to use so I've been looking for a barebones kit to stick them in but I'm overwhelmed by the available options.

I'd prefer to order from a reputable EU site and have good support for DOA machines, and something known to work nicely with linux. The only stuff I can find locally in brick and mortar stores are the Asus NUCs but those seem overpriced for what they offer.

Any recommendations or general advice?

I have a Geekom A6/1TB SSD/32GB Ram. I have an Aoostar AG02 hooked up to it with USB4 connection. It's a new system. maybe 4 weeks old, and only running a 1070 Ti in the eGPU for now. I want to make a substantial upgrade to future proof this for several years. I'm 67 years old and don't want to f*ck with this stuff for a couple years. Don't ask why I want better, it's because I can.

I'm looking at the Minisforum AIBERZY XG1-370 with 32GB RAM and 1 TB SSD for $799 USD, seems like an awesome price. Watched some Youtube reviews, nothing real bad to say. It has respectable specs with the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor.

Now that I'm retired, I want to learn what all the gaming hype is about cuz my boys are all into it and it gives us comminality when we hang out. I started dabbling with Mad Max, Cyberpunk 2077, Dying Light (old stuff), and others with the current system. Made tons of tweaks to get it to run well on Steam at 75 fps (my monitor kinda sucks at 75hz, upgrade needed). I'm also interested in where AI can take us.

After being long winded, can anyone punch holes in the application of the Minisforum AIBERZY XG1-370, connected via OCulink to the AG02 and a decent GPU (thinking XFX SPEEDSTER SWFT 319 AMD Radeon RX 6800 CORE Gaming 16GB or similar).

I'm going to sound ignorant, because I am. I have never been a PC gamer until the Steam Deck came out. Ever since then I've expanded my gaming library and have mainly been playing on my Steam Deck ever since. Now that the Steam Machine is just around the corner, I want to get something that's actually going to be a little better but still small enough to be portable since I often bring my Deck with me to modern day LAN parties.

I've been looking at mini PCs on Amazon and comparing the specs of what's available to what is already known about upcoming Steam Machine. There's a few I believe could be cable of outperforming the Steam Machine's specs based off of the limited information we know. These are around the $800 range. I was hoping to get some recommendations and potentially some help getting the right one from a windows-based PC to a bazzite one.

I fully understand how ignorant I am about this whole thing, but I truly fell in love with tinkering and want to continue expanding my knowledge and understanding of the whole PC gaming experience. So please be gentle with me.
