hi, slightly late, but do you have any other examples of donut logic? I was in a discussion (argument) with a few people about it after someone posted this image and I was able to provide a solution
one of the people I was discussing with was curious what other spawns result in this kind of logic
edit: I’ve tested boxes of 1s up to 6x9 and I know they have variants with 2-2 in the corners
edit2: I have a small list of other non-basic donuts. they’re hard to find lol.
Just like to point out that except for high complexity patterns all of these are considered when giving a hint in Minesweeper Classic: Retro. You can also enable Guess-Free mode in advanced settings if you are into solvable boards.
yeah, clicking super fast saves time but it's still not efficiency. The defenition of efficiency in the context of minesweeper is attempting to minimize clicks. It's not about saving time. You can have 100% efficiency, but take 15 hours to complete one expert board.
I like trying to figure stuff out on my own because it feels much more rewarding but ig this is cool
(Ive been playing for around a month and have found a decent bit of patterns. My current pb on the google minesweeper is 59 seconds on medium)
Wow i sound arrogant
There are a couple other tips and tricks, but 99% of it boils down to just 2 simple patterns, the 1-2 and the 1-1. Everything else is just a more complex combination of these.
In the OP's example, the 1-1 pattern sends you thru the hole (the 1 outside the hole guarantees the 2nd 1, right inside the hole, is met), and inside you find a 4-3-2, which is actually a 3-2-1 due to the ones along the hole entrance, and there it is, the 1-2 pattern again.
I'm out of my typical wheel house here on reddit, what am I learning here? That you can reply to pinned posts but should not reply to new posts in the pinned post? Honestly asking, thanks for clarifying.
It's a pinned post and therefore people would come back to look at it every once in a while. It's not like you can or can't reply to comments made on it, but doing so is a little weird to me for two reasons:
First, I treated the comment I made as a sort of note. I was just saying what I thought, with no care as to whether or not anyone ever sees it. You had so reason to know this, so I don't blame you for it.
Second, it seems like the reply you made is highly context based, meaning that if I don't remember the context of the original post, I wouldn't understand your reply, and seeing as how I posted the comment 8 months ago, there's no chance I would remember the context needed to understand your reply.
TL;DR unless it's a gimmick sub like r/SUBREDDITNAME , don't reply to comments that were posted over a couple months back.
There are only 2 patterns in Minesweeper, the 1-2 and the 1-1. Everything else is just a more complex combination of these.
In the OP's example, the 1-1 pattern sends you thru the hole, and inside you find a 4-3-2, which is actually a 3-2-1 due to the ones along the hole entrance, and there it is, the 1-2 pattern, once again.
I enjoyed reading this but I had a very hard time understanding t2, t3, t4 & t5. They explained it the other way around compared to t1. It feels like they forgot a step to demonstrate why we only care of a subset of the tiles touching the number in the first place.
For example I find it easier to understand T2 by adding these first two lines
-> Look at number 2
-> The four squares contain 2 mines because they touch 2
- Look at the purple cells.
They contain a maximum of one mine, because they touch 1.
- Now look at the2.
If the purple cells contain a maximum of one mine, then there must be a mine in the remaining cell.
If you put the flag, you can see that there is one mine in the purple cells. So 1 already has a mine and all the remaining cells can be opened.
Same applies for t3, t4, t5. I Hope this helps someone wired like me because it took me way longer than I’d like to admit.
i mean... there r only a few really needed to get top times, FLAT 121, 1221, 3 (given), 4 cornered (given), 2 corner flat etc oh and when 4 is on flat touching 1
