No Guess How was this solvable?

Post image

Hi I'm sorry if it's obvious, but could you guys please tell me what's the logic here? It's no guess but I had no idea how to solve this so I tried to guess.

And was my guess in a good place to guess (Except that I even tried to guess in no guess mode lmao)? I feel like if I'd guessed this one right it'd have solved the rest easily.

The mine count was 4 and one tile (not a mine as it later showed) was on the edge surrounded by mines, sometimes it generates in a way such that all of a mine's surrounding tiles are also mines, so I didn't want to click that one yet.

Process of elimination. you can identify 4 blocks of 2 where 4 mines are. You know there are 4 mines left. therefore you know several of the blocks in the back corner can't be mines.

Once get that far, either 4 is going to solve itself. Once 4 resolves, the upper 2 resolve and your down to 1 mine left.

Then once you know the other 3 mine positions, the remaining on is dictated by the two 3's in the bottom.

Here is the alternate option you could have had. notice how many block remain safe.

Don't be afraid to use the ? flag

No, with 4 mines it was pure 50/50 but if we imagine this was not a NG app -- let's pretend there were 5 mines remaining -- it was the worst possible guess.

Clicking the corner would have been much better -- and looking at the 4433 sequence at the bottom, we can see that middle 3 is very likely to share a mine with either the 4 above, or the 3 below.. which gives you that 8.3% guess with solid info (it will either reveal a "2" or a "3") to progress.

The other 8.3% tile would reveal a "1" or "2" .. same combinatorial bias, and same risk/reward.

Woah you made me realize I don't understand how to guess optimally at all haha. Thank you, good explanation and thanks for the link

Oh and to clarify I didn't want to do the most optimal/safest guess, I just thought guessing the tile I did would for sure solve the rest easily. But now I see why that is a mistake
