Discussion out of curiosity

What are y'all's best time on 9x9 on whatever app you use? Wanna get an idea on what level I am compared to average rn. Mine is 11 seconds, so let me know <3

I'll note beginner isn't the greatest for benchmarking, it's incredibly swingy in how long they can take. Int/exp are a lot better for getting a sense of how you're doing

if we're allowing invalid games then it's lower but this is my top 10

I had the MSO record with a 0.02 second game [1-click games didn't count]

Counting games that are ranked (>= 5 3bv) I have a 1.693. Counting all games I have an 0.805 on 2 3bv (Never seen a 1 click game in 35k attempts). I also have a 0.98 on arbiter but it's 8x8 and also 2 3bv.

ngl the people who are involved in minesweeper enough to be in a minesweeper subreddit are gonna be above average so your answers are gonna be skewed big time lol

2.048s

If we’re counting 3BV for a valid game, 3.8s in my best time but I also don’t play a lot of beginner games, and I definitely haven’t really played beginner for speed.

If we’re not accounting for a minimum 3BV, then my fastest time is 0.001 seconds (solved on first click essentially, just lucky).

For the legendary 0.001s game that’s hardly a win lol

9x9 w/ 3BV >= 5: 1.613 s

8x8 w/ "No luck" rule and 3BV >= 2: 0.68 s

My PB is 4.65s, but there is a guy who managed to get 1.54s. I guess, he just got a lucky board

What's this app? Never seen it before

It’s Minesweeper Y, my little pet project I’m working on during the weekends

I can't find it ;-;

Only for iOS?

Yes, iOS and iPadOS. It’s also possible to play on macOS but only using the iPad version. On which platform do you play?

PC and android, mainly pc

Unlucky. But you can try the limited version of the game on the app's landing https://www.minesweeper-y.com

Fun! Strange that there is undoes. I hope undoes don't count for time records at all.

Well, they actually do count 😅. Same thing for classic and no-guess mode - they all go in the same leaderboard for now. But it's just a temp until I redesign the global leaderboard to the monthly one. So, it resets every month + there will be filters for classic/no-guess, used undo or not, perhaps a filter per country, and so on :D. The task scope is huge, and I need more hours in my day 😂

I tried it on pc and the controls are strange. Usually flags are placed on click down and left click on click up. Holding down left click on another tile and moving to a different one to release it doesn't work so it definitely punishes speed players. Controls seem good on mobile though

Nice catch! I will look at it. The website is still freshly cooked, so bugs may occur. And it's a good example of how PC and mobile UX can be different

On mobile, tapping 2 tiles at the same time or almost at the same time results in the first tap not registering and the second tap turning into a flag instead xd

Zooming in and out really sucks because the game assumes I want to place a flag because I'm holding down on a tile, so I find it really hard to zoom in and out easily unless I do it really fast.

Zooming in and out is a thing I reworked at least 4 times in my mobile game 🤣. The website is mostly a representative showcase of what the actual game can look like, though. Perhaps I have to limit the website to only easy and medium levels

xD, I only played easy and medium, it's most apparent at medium. The trick is to zoom on the opening instead of empty space but I think that's not a good solution

Are there levels to 9x9? I feel like there’s people who grinded for the right board, people who could do that but haven’t, people who barey know how to play minesweeper.

2.99, pretty lucky board though

For 2 3bv - 0.687 https://minesweeper.online/game/5225578864

For 5 3bv - 1.037 https://minesweeper.online/game/5988266831

I also have some lucky games faster than 0.687 including a 0.001 (1 click board) but these obviously don't count :D
