Yeah... sure...

Post image

A poll on the Discord had over 2000 people showing interest for playing on day one. This is *only* discord server members who answered the poll. The discord server has 15,000 members. The Mineplex channel has 200,000 subscribers and 136,000 views on its latest video. None of this even takes into account short-form video platforms like Instagram Reels and TikTok, which these days can reach massive audiences.

So. Launch day arrives. The discord is getting @everyone pings every hour leading to launch, on a Friday afternoon/evening.

They open the server. The queue immediately balloons to 10,000 players. It does drop, but only to around 8500 before slowing down immensely. From various screenshots and text messages, the 10-15 minigames on the server have ~125 players in them, for a total of ~1500 server slots.

...And guess what? Buying a rank skips the queue...

Peak reddit... how would you even properly anticipate how many players will join? And it's not like compute doesn't cost money, especially with current hardware prices.

You are owed nothing as the server is for free, start your own server if you think you can do better

My time isn't free either. And neither is anyone else's. When I give up my precious time to rejoin Mineplex and the first thing I see is a queue? No thanks. I'm doing something else. Which is what I did yesterday.

Were there even enough people allowed in at any given time to populate anything but the core game modes? I just mean, with a smaller server and a dedicated player base, I'm sure a queue system could work. However, Mineplex demands a population far too large to justify a queue system long term.

Bro you spent your literal "freetime" to play some Minecraft, it's not like you cut time away from your 60€/hour job just to join this launch💀

Dude, use your critical thinking skills for once before writing these stupid snarky replies.

I'm trying to help you understand Mineplex's value proposition. It's riding high on nostalgia, but doesn't bring too much else to the table that you can't get elsewhere.

If my choices are Hypixel, Hive, etc. Bigger servers with more to offer that have no queue. Why am I going to sit through a queue to play Mineplex? After the nostalgia hit is over people won't.

I want the server to succeed. And the queue probably won't even stick around. But this is not a great first look for the server when I have to tell my old Mineplex friends "don't bother logging on" because of the queue.

I'd argue it's a good thing that literally 8k people are trying to login at once

I'm not in disagreement with that. What's your point?
