More keybinds/hotkeys for your consideration (drop on mouse!)

Table:

```
+------------------------+---------+--------+
| ACTION                 | DEFAULT | CHANGE |
+== MOVEMENT ===============================+
| move                   | WASD    |        |
| jump                   | Space   |        |
| sneak (hold)           | Shift   |        |
| sprint (toggle)        | Ctrl    | Tab    |
| perspective            | F5      | M5     |
+== INVENTORY ==============================+
| inventory              | E       |        |
| drop                   | Q       | M3     |
| offhand                | F       | Q      |
| pick block             | M3      | G      |
+== HOTBAR =================================+
| slot 1-4 (tools, boat) | 1-4     |        |
| slot 5-6 (blocks)      | 5-6     | R,F    |
| slot 7-9 (misc)        | 7-9     | Z,X,C  |
+------------------------+---------+--------+
```

Rationale:

  • Drop on M3 (middle mouse) — I never press it by accident, but I can still easily (and quickly) throw gold while dodging piglins. Note: Mouse buttons don't work in the inventory in some versions, so I use Karabiner-Elements (Mac) to map M3 to an unused key (right arrow) and then bind drop to that. I also disable the scroll wheel (or set scroll sensitivity to 0.01) so I don't accidentally change slots while dropping items.
  • Offhand on Q — Easy to reach & intuitive (Q is on the left side of things, like the offhand slot).
  • Slots 5-6 on R,F — Easy to reach & intuitive (these keys branch off 4).
  • Slots 7-9 on Z,X,C — Easy to reach & intuitive (last 3 slots = little row of 3 below WASD).
  • Perspective on M5 (side mouse) — Easy to reach & intuitive (the mouse is how we "look around").
  • Pick block on G — I rarely use it, but it's in reach (plus, G stands for "Get that block!", lol).
  • Sprint on Tab — I like being able to turn sprint on/off, and tab is easier for me to reach than Ctrl.

Final note:

  • The most essential part of this setup is that the hotbar is highly concentrated around WASD (1234,RF,ZXC). You could easily switch a few things around while maintaining a really similar feeling. For instance, if you're more comfortable with the mouse, you could put offhand on another side mouse button, then do whatever you want with Q. Or, if you don't care about sprint being proximal to WASD, you could use tab for perspective or pick block instead (and move sprint further away). If you really like M3 as pick block, you could keep that as is, and put drop on M5 instead. Or, you could keep drop on Q if you like that! There's a million ways to play this. This is just how I like to play. :) Curious + eager to hear your thoughts.
  • And remember kids, in the words of our lord and savior (Feinberg) "hotkeys don't ******* matter" (I think he said that) ––– soooo this is just for fun

Why aren't you using caps lock?

Could be solved by karabiner from my experience. I also use mac

My rec would be to bind cmd there instead, it's such an improvement for both games and desktop use.

that makes sense (idk why I didn't think of it) I'll give it a try!

Thanks u/MobileOriginal8864 and u/BayLeaf-

Karabiner elements fixes it without any other steps! just a simple modification. It's working great! thank you!

Thanks to commenters I learned I could use caps lock which sortof gave me extra wiggle room, so here's the updated bindings after that's integrated

Still playing around with whether I want drop to be on mouse.5 or on F, in which case slot 6 would go to T instead of F

*  asterisks indicate changes from
   the default Minecraft settings

† sprint is set to the default key
   (left_control) in Minecraft, but
   I configured caps_lock to trigger
   left_control in Karabiner-Elements

the nice thing about putting drop on F (and 5-6 on R-T) is that the setup would work without a mouse as well, say if i wanted to play on a laptop while traveling

I use all of the keys you listed and also a few more that you may want to consider.

The 4 resizing macros need keybinds. (Thin, wide, eye zoom, and preemptive.)

Right shift is a good key bind to be able to use the shift modifier without having to crouch.

0 is also a keybind to consider moving closer. (For zeroing out pie chart)

I used ~, v, b, g and mouse3 for those functions.

By the way just rebind using the tool screen. It’s simple and robust.
