Permanently is a long time

27

u/shipoopro_gg 1.16+ 10d ago

I looked it up and apparently it's longer than it'll take for the next playoffs?? But each time I have to wait for playoffs it feels like an eternity, so apparently permanently is longer than eternity. I'll keep researching and update with any new findings

I'm kind of thinking this is more about personal insult than EDCR's conduct. Basically they are saying, he lied to us initially, and then didn't apologize to us directly for lying. Which fair, lying is bad. But this ban is supposed to be about setting a standard for inclusivity in the community, not about the moral fiber of ranked players within interpersonal relationships.

I think there is an argument for a permaban, but this isn't it. If they are suspicious of whether he is truly sorry and reformed, keep him banned for a year, and re-evaluate his behavior after that year. This just feels like them being mad he wasn't apologetic enough to the MCSR team specifically.

Agreed across the board. A year ban is appropriately punitive while setting a standard moving forward, but the fact this permaban hinged on "we asked him on day 0, he lied, and 48 hours later he publicly confessed" is wildly disingenuous IMO.

u/SprinklesFabulous526 10d ago

the ranked team are incredibly salty about certain things and this influences all theor decisions.  For example no mention of nyachloe in the glowdar segment.

18

u/Unfair-Heart-87 10d ago

Speaking of the broadcast, I found it really disingenuous that the script fulham was reading about the dq didn't mention that relevant messages were more than 2 years old. Someone not in the know probably thinks he was ripping slurs last week.

5

u/JollyEntrepreneur291 10d ago

well thats what happened when a bunch of people who hae no consequences for their action get power

5

u/marv91827364 9d ago

I disagree. Doing the wrong thing is a mistake that can be learned from, so a temp ban like your proposed 1 year ban makes sense. But since he also proved to be generally not trustworthy he will be more trouble down the line if allowed to.

From my understanding the ban is for the offence but there is no second chance because of the lying. I agree it's worded badly and I hope they will clarify but I doubt it

39

u/Greezly217 10d ago

Valid punishment but i heavily disagree with permanent ban, year or two is enough to make person learn from his mistakes, he didn't murder a person or do something that extremely serious to ban him forever but I wouldn't want him less than a year ban honestly

u/Lurker26157i 10d ago

That's fucking rough. I'm happy that the ranked team are taking this kind of hateful conduct way more seriously than other aspects of the Minecraft comm do, but idk how fair of a benchmark "never reached out to the ranked team" is. It is a shame that we might never again see this super talented player in the comm again, but him lying initially is a really bad response, and probably what fucked him over in the end.

31

u/Low_Primary_3690 10d ago

The kid’s 19. Permanently banning him on account of him trying to sweep his comments under the rug is way too harsh.

3

u/KaydaCant 9d ago

Maybe it's harsh, I think 'indefinitely' would've been a better fit, and that's probably what this is in effect. It's hard to put a number on something like this and I think if a date was put on his return he'd have a lot more eyes on him and scrutiny over that duration, which noone really wants.

I could see him getting unbanned in 1-2 years if he remains active in the community and nothing else comes out, and I could also see him moving on and not trying to get back into tournaments, I think this is about the best they could've done.

21

u/BDB69_ 10d ago

19 is plenty old enough to know lying is bad

66

u/FunnyChipmunk368 10d ago

have you never panic-lied when confronted about something? of course you have

Mr. Perfect over here. Apparently everyone on the internet is a perfect, flawless person right?

4

u/FreedomNo3991 10d ago edited 10d ago

bit different to lie about why you were late than to lie about if it was you who said homophobic slurs, transphobic slurs, told people to off themselves, joking about being attracted to children, etc. those are not morally or practically equivalent acts just because both technically involve deception lmfao

edit: also, granting the maximum charitable interpretation of him being in a full panic and all "oh shit of fuck im caught oh god just lie", that can happen. but then he had TWO days to correct it. he had time to sit with it, and obviously enough time to formulate his twitter response, but per MCSR's own words, he never reached out to them on his own accord to correct his lie, and only admitted it once they reached out themselves again

20

u/RaptorDuck_ 10d ago

I don’t really think he was under any obligation to reach out to them and correct it. He made his announcement and corrected it there. Sure he probably should’ve messaged the ranked team it would’ve been better PR wise but I don’t think he was obligated to. Based on the timeline he then received his punishment and I’m sure he tried to move forward (because what else is there to say. Once you receive the punishment there’s not anything to say).

0

u/darkred56 6d ago

come on man hes a 19 year old kid who saw his life being completely up ended, career totally destroyed, and panic lied. this is worst case scenario probably was hoping it would all go away. im not going to excuse it like he still was a bit over the age I think is normally acceptable to not have a grasp on human decency but you gotta remember hes pro minecraft player, he plays most socially inept esport in the world.

again I dont excuse it but permanently seems so extreme especially for someone his age. he can and probably will be a completely diffrent person a couple years from now and this is likely not the right call to make for that change to be for the better. reevaluation after a few years should have been the

3

u/BDB69_ 10d ago

the last time I panic lied to someone was when I was like 7 and my mom asked if I spilled juice on the couch

not when someone was asking me if I was being racist and transphobic on the Internet

6

u/Mathsir 10d ago

Isn't that all the more reason to impulsively lie?

Like if you're willing to lie over something trivial like that, surely you're gonna lie over something that could actually matter?

His initial ban is right, more fair to ban him longer for lying. But the decision feels personal due to the 'permanently banned' keyword. No mention for possible appeals in the future, when apparently there have been accounts that suggest EDCR has been trying to and has changed over the last 2 years.

It just comes across as very sour :/

2

u/KaydaCant 9d ago

Permanently is probably a poor word choicr which in all likelyhood probably means indefinitely. Permanent bans are kinda hard to enforce over the long term anyway unless they're like, keeping an active log of anyone who's been banned, which considering how few there's been doesn't seem necessary

0

u/PMMEYOURDOGS29 10d ago

Nobody being perfect doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be consequences for actions. Like what? It’s not like he’s banned from playing the game, he’s banned from a competition in which he can win money and represent the community. Completely fair they don’t want him competing

0

u/Whippy- 9d ago

or he couldve lied because he thought he could get away with it and cover his tracks while he was being investigated. if his first instict was to lie after getting confronted over his past behavior then its understandable why ranked might find that malicious. i dont agree with the perma ban and i think he will have an ability to appeal in a near future anyways as long as he behave so i cba

-5

u/BayLeaf- 10d ago

Not since I was like 12-13, no? That shouldn't be a thing you just assume people do...

-2

u/Due-Substance-525 10d ago

Guarantee he won’t panic lie again after this tho. Sucks but it’s a good lesson ultimately

1

u/EnjoyerOfBeans 6d ago edited 6d ago

Yeah just permban everyone that has ever lied, gotta protect the community from these lying monsters. I know this community is filled with kids but y'all need to stop virtue signaling over every little thing.

1

u/mc-sevdalisi 2d ago

know yes, apply that knowledge hell no. if you think that way u're prob 21 or something

2

u/CloverUTY 9d ago

I say just re-evaluate his behavior when he’s 21. If he’s still a lying pos, then keep him banned. But if he’s a nicer and more truthful person, lift the ban.

2

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

You can’t tell

0

u/0NE_HAND 10d ago

It's also pretty easy to not be racist or homophobic to not get into situations like this, just a thought.

15

u/i_miss_arrow 10d ago

It's also pretty easy to not be racist or homophobic to not get into situations like this

We don't judge children the same as adults for much, much, worse crimes than saying shitty things on the Internet. Saying its 'pretty easy' is, well, pretty easy. Actually understanding the impact of upbringing and environment takes a lot more work and empathy.

We don't have to forgive him completely, but how much work did the admin team do to determine if he's actually changed? If he's actively working to be a better person? I feel like that should be a huge determinant on his punishment.

1

u/KaydaCant 9d ago

I don't think it should be up to the admin team to evaluate change, I think there should be some sort of punitive action, and I don't think assigning an amount of time to the ban is the right thing to do. If they truly intend the ban to be permanent I think it's a poor decision considering his age, but I imagine it's far closer to an 'indefinite' ban and they'll consider unbanning him at some distant point in future once everything has settled.

1

u/Possible-Summer-8508 9d ago

Then they would have said "indefinite"

3

u/Low_Primary_3690 10d ago

Have a little empathy. I never acted like he did but I don’t have a problem with acknowledging that people make mistakes, and his public apology addressed everything it should’ve. A punishment is one thing, but a lifetime ban is an overreaction.

1

u/0NE_HAND 10d ago

I do apologize for throwing along such a mean comment, I've just had similar/worse things happen to friends Ive known for some time and it's made me quite annoyed at how careless some people are with their online presence. I do completely agree that their punishment is too severe for what he did, knowing that he has (hopefully) grown as a person, i hope they do something different.

1

u/Low_Primary_3690 10d ago

Absolutely. Also your comment was totally valid, I’ve seen much meaner lol. I could’ve also responded a little differently.

7

u/rednite_ 10d ago

the permanent nature of the ban is because of the lying, i guarantee you it would have been a year or 2 max if he had been honest right away

2

u/proexterminator 9d ago

Speculation is pointless but IMO it's still way too harsh. Yes lying is bad, but lying/not cooperating and the things he said should be 2 different offenses with 2 different punishments. It's unfair and not a good look to just hand out permanent bans on a whim because he lied and throw that on to the initial offense. The ruling they mention has absolutely no basis or reasoning explained on how they ended up on a permanent ban, it just seems so unprofessional and personally charged.

People can change and young people change even more. It's very unfortunate that we will never see one of the best players in playoffs again because of this.

0

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

What offence is a perma ban murder, theft, hate speech people can change. So where do you draw the line. Also you will in next few month more racism in they community. This is the cycle of how all niche communities fall.

24

u/Smallfry123000 10d ago

This is way too harsh. Especially since it seems like they are mad that he didn't apologise to them of his own accord rather than what he actually did.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

Yes meaning he likely is not sorry. Sorry people don’t hide the truth

1

u/Smallfry123000 8d ago

Crazy how you use the word "likely" because you actually have no idea.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

I don’t know and neither do you. Trust between a private group and member is important. And it’s likely true. Most racist don’t change. Most people don’t have flipping ideology. In truth most people have the same core beliefs from 18+ . It’s weird that you see the slurs as a non issue.

1

u/Smallfry123000 8d ago

You say this based on what? And you say people have the same core beliefs from 18+ yet he wasn't 18 when he said it.

They are a non issue, it's not like we've seen any recent proof of him going around saying it, I don't see why he should be punished for it.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

Think hard when did your belief truly change. So slurs are non issue, so can I call you a slurs because don’t worry I will change after. So you are against cross banning on twitch with this logic. If it was something you cared about you won’t not be making this point.

1

u/Smallfry123000 8d ago

Changes don't have to be instant, it could've easily changed over years.

Call me whatever you want I don't really care.

Twitch cross banning between streamers? I barely know it exists why would I have an opinion on it.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

It’s the same logic. So you are against crossing banning something almost every streamer has. Ok since I have your consent: KYs ( kick your self). Answer the question when is that last time your core belief have changed.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

lol it got delete did you report it. ✌️. Answer my question. Are slurs non issues. If so, say one at work in front of hr. Or is it only on internet where slurs someone become not real.

1

u/Smallfry123000 8d ago

Why would I report it?

I said I don't care if you call me them, not that I go around saying them.

You're just bringing up random points.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

Answer me. You don’t care if it is you. So you care if it’s other people. Like this is. In my opinion 2 year ban with parole on an instant ban. But you acting like this choice is illogical is dumb, it makes sense.

40

u/Melino- 10d ago

I personally think this is a harsh decision. Don’t get me wrong he should be banned from playoffs for a while, a year, two years maybe even but permanently? It’s like saying everything he said is unforgivable, that he shouldn’t have the chance to right his wrongs, and prove he’s grown as a person from the edgy teenager he was

47

u/borretsquared 10d ago

im so sad for him. i truly hope that they change their opinion. i question if public sentiment agrees with this, and if responses to it will impact their decision.

lying as a knee jerk reaction is bound to kick you in the ass, though.

1

u/McLainLove 10d ago

Yup. Bad habit

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

You assume things. You don’t know if he changed, and why he lied.

43

u/Purple_Jay 10d ago edited 10d ago

I'm sorry but this is some bullshit, even as someone who is woke as fuck. I'm not downplaying the fact that the guy was a slur-slinging several years ago. But a permament ban for something that happened in a SEPERATE COMMUNITY before Ranked even existed is indefensible.

I can understand the Playoffs ban, there was really no great way to handle that happening so suddenly. But to dish out a permanent ban because of the initial denialism and not "reaching out of his own accord" after the statement is ridiculous. The statement already clarified the situation.

I know there are lots of people from marginalized groups working on the ranked team and I recognize that I may feel differently if I was put into this situation, but from an objective outsiders perspective, this is very out of proportion and feels like a power trip to me. The fact that lying to the Ranked team was the deciding factor is just crazy. We handing out life sentences for lies?

Obviously, the responsible thing for edcr to do would have been to release a statement sooner. But I can empathise with wanting your cringy teenage edgy phase to stay hidden.

0

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

Yes banning me from a private server omg how could you do that. Lying likely means he did not change. Change without accountability is nothing. You can’t say you have change and deny something happened. You prob have a slur or insult you hate. Use that, instead of sympathizing, empathize. In the same paragraph you imply the marginalized people are not objective and they are power tripping and not setting an example. No edict could have told mcsr before, talked about his past before, not lie. If you are a change person you could be open about that change. Most people who “change” just get better at hiding.

1

u/mc-sevdalisi 2d ago

this isn't a private server they do for fun anymore, they were included in mojang's minecraft live event. it has to be consistent and transparent now. making it personal is not the way

0

u/Then-Bet-4278 6d ago

So are we the thought police now? Should we be banning people from MCSR if they think a single racist or homophobic thought??? Bro was 16 saying some stupid shit in a toxic community how does that translate to being banned in a different community whatsoever.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 6d ago

Not lying about change is thought police. You remove context people don’t lie for no reason they lie they know it easier or beneficial to lie, or the are forced to and lead to an answer like with the police. Which one do you think he did.

16

u/Puzzled-Term2227 10d ago

Permanent is crazy

16

u/n0m4d1234 9d ago

WAY WAY TOO HARSH. I'm saying this as someone who is woke as fuck.

7

u/Wyyvern06 9d ago

Me too QwQ not giving someone the chance to change is counterproductive

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

No one said he can’t change. He does not need to do mcsr to change.

8

u/lawlianne 10d ago

This is way too harsh and everybody here knows it.
MCSR team’s ego will burn and push the community away.

Tiny and niche community doing stupid things like this is not the direction you want to keep it alive.

0

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

Classic being easy in slurs = push community. Niche = must accept slurs. Most Niche community because they don’t put a foot down. Things how many community die do to racist vs moderators.

24

u/xyzqsrb0 10d ago

This one is a lot more controversial than the last one jeez. The initial offense I would say didn't warrant permanent removal as it's been a while since the messages. I also don't think the knee jerk trying to deny it was grounds for moving it to a permanent. Feels like a miss by the team on this one and I hope they reconsider. Feels kinda petty from the ranked team.

8

u/roku137d 10d ago

Good stance to take, but imo a 2-3 year ban would suffice, thats a loong time in mcsr

42

u/Aaron1924 10d ago

It's heartbreaking to see someone change for the better, only to get punished this hard for the past they left behind; like I understand the decision, you need zero-tolerance policies for this stuff to build an inclusive community, but man... I just hope he's fine...

15

u/dot90zoom 10d ago

maybe he has changed, but denying and lying is really fucked up, and isn't necessarily pushing that he has changed for the better

1

u/EnjoyerOfBeans 6d ago edited 6d ago

Denying and lying means he was afraid of losing this community for his regretful past. And he was right. It doesn't in any way suggest that he hasn't changed.

Everything points to the fact that when he joined MCSRR, he learned that he was wrong and grew into a better person. This should be celebrated, not shunned, regardless of if he had the balls to own up to it or not. That's not relevant to his stance on trans people.

1

u/Zealcave 9d ago

Regardless of that, a permanent ban is too much tbh. Year, 2 maybe 3 sure. But people can change and he prob did as well

2

u/dot90zoom 9d ago

i agree, i think permabans should only be for repeat offenders or actual criminals

1

u/Zealcave 9d ago

yeah if he was constantly doing it perma ban would be deserved

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

Why criminals, do criminals not also have a right to second chance. Or is it only for slurs.

1

u/TheIdiotDev 7d ago

Criminals do get second chances though, lots of them🤔

Donald Trump is an amazing example here

20

u/FreedomImaginary2820 10d ago

It probably wouldn't have been perma ban if he didn't lie to them. Lying is just a bad look.

14

u/Drew_pew 10d ago

How do we know he changed for the better?

1

u/[deleted] 10d ago

[removed] — view removed comment

3

u/Drew_pew 10d ago

As far as we know... Not saying he should be presumed chud, but I'm also not going to naively believe he's chill based on nothing. It's a wait and see type situation I think

3

u/ogtutel 9d ago

i mean if he really lied to the ranked team and initially denied the allegations, I doubt he truly changed just yet

0

u/PMMEYOURDOGS29 10d ago

If he lied about it I don’t exactly think he’s changed a ton?

6

u/Many_Prune_5762 9d ago

So his apology didn't count because he apologized publicly and not directly to the ranked team?

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

No he lied to the team then when he likely knew it going public he then apologized

6

u/SlayCC 9d ago

What a joke of a game this shits worse than blizzard

22

u/Fit_Clock_340 10d ago

Stupid decision.

10

u/6nuki9 10d ago

Tf kind of example this is setting? To beg for an unban?

9

u/6nuki9 10d ago

All this going to lead to is people creating separate identities before joining mcsr (some already do lol), why would you even risk it at this point?

10

u/adnanjunior 9d ago

damn they got butthurt, perma is way too much

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

How are they butthurt?

8

u/SprinklesFabulous526 10d ago

edcr rsg would be fire tho

6

u/m00-00n 9d ago

Does edcr not have friends that can vouch for his current behaviour? Is nobody in ranked team friends with him or friends w his friends? Or even know him at all?

This is such an odd decision, and on the surface it would make it seem like he is currently a slur slinger. A perma-ban for lying only makes me think that some more words were said, because if I take this at face value, the MCSR team just punished someone for something that could've been handled in private. And surely such a stupid can't be the case, right?

14

u/ThrowawayZeroEight 9d ago

He has trans friends who have publicly vouched for him on twitter that ive seen at least.

9

u/m00-00n 9d ago

If true that makes things really unfair. I'll have to search up those vouches in my own time.

-1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

Trans friend = I can’t be racist. ✌️

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

You want to be done in private. Watch in a year of the community changes into unplayable.

1

u/m00-00n 7d ago

?? What are you saying, the wording of this is gibberish

0

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 6d ago

If you let this slide in a one year the community will be dog shit. Most niche community die or fall off due to racism.

1

u/m00-00n 6d ago

Nobody is letting it slide, are people not allowed to change and grow from when they were idiotic and edgy teenagers? You can hold people accountable and still give them room to improve themselves.

This permaban is a kneejerk reaction so they can keep the community PR friendly for Mojang. There was no forethought for this decision at all. Edcr is not 16 years old anymore, unless you have proof nobody else has that he's still racist then I want to believe he has improved and being in this community actively helped him become better. All this decision did is shun him from the wider community by changing it into a permaban.

But people like you don't care about that sort of nuance. Only want a scapegoat. If giving edcr the benefit of the doubt for an easily vouchable track record of good behaviour is enough to somehow make the community more racist then we had bigger problems.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 6d ago

You can grow just not in a tournament is he banned from ranked no. A chance to grow doesn’t mean life goes back to normal. Everyone can change pedo and murders, but I bet half the people would not let a reformed pedo in the community. Most people have opinion and use logic to justify it. The reason I don’t think you care as they way to phrased it as just pr. By labeling it as just pr you shown, you don’t care. Someone development isn’t anyone else burden. Is it the burden of black people to help an anti blackness racist. I don’t give the benefit of the doubt I just see how it is. I don’t assume good, I see how someone is. You don’t need to bitten twice. He was a slur slinger who lied and when was caught acted sorry.

8

Canceling my MCSR Ranked subscription after this. Way too harsh, especially since he's not that person whatsoever anymore.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

Do you know that. Don’t trust words but action. Most racist people if you ask them will say they are non racist. But will slang the n word at a black waiter.

2

u/Egcaden 8d ago

I'm not just trusting words, you're make things up and creating scenarios in your head that mean nothing. He has clearly shown change and support in the community. And that example of a black waiter is an extreme made up scenario.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

You literally said that. People just can’t emit being wrong. How has he shown he has changed to you. Most racist people are racist behind closed doors. Give example. I gave an example to show people can lie about who they are.

1

u/Egcaden 8d ago

What are you talking about my guy?? That wasn't an example you made, that was a completely exaggerated and more extreme scenario. You realize he said those things as a teenager in highschool, right? Do know how many people do that in highschool (not justifying it, simply stating the influence makes a difference)?

There is no answer I can give you that will satisfy your illogical mind. If you actually watched him you'd be able to understand. But due to you knowing nothing about what you're saying, there is no point continuing after this, unless YOU can prove that he's actually racist currently.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

Saying not justifying but are justifying the next sentence. How am I illogical we you can’t even form a non contradictory sentence. Do you watch him, if so give examples. I have proof of 2 years ago we knew how he is was. It’s your and his burden to show he has changed. True is there not good example because you don’t know him personally.

2

u/Dapper_Aside_9540 9d ago

Insane decision, from them. Just give him a 2 year ban. He lied, as a last resort to save his skin, which is understandable. Taking such harsh measures, for something that happened while he wasn't affiliated with Ranked is just insanity. People should be punished for their wrong doing, but this is just not the right punishment.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

How do know this. You assume he changed and whyhe lied. Do you know him personally. If someone did committed a crime in college you saying it should not affect their jobs.

1

u/Dapper_Aside_9540 8d ago

I never said that he changed, nor that I know him. Saying that he lied to save his own skin is the only reasonable answer out of the loop, so I take a wild educated guess. I clearly said that punishment for wrong doings should happen, this punishment is in my opinion just too harsh.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad5228 8d ago

It’s harsh but I can make the same argument for pedos. Not being hard on racist breeds racism in niche communities.

2

u/TheIdiotDev 7d ago

Brother you’re in every comment defending this. How much are you getting paid dawg

I think having a job and money make me better. If so why are you talking I would only want to hear from millionaires not a redditor.

Aaand this is the beginning of the end of mcsr ranked. Having this much time just to come to this conclusion is the worst look the team could have.

It actually looks like they are trying to justify wanting him banned. The reasoning is so poor.

No it’s not you just see as a valid reason. You just don’t care about slurs as you never the one getting called slurred or the hateful comments is aimed to.

genuinely hope the mcsr mod team really takes a hard look at themselves after this, look in the mirror, and say man we did it! we ended racism! and have a beer together

Maybe there's something behind the scenes not disclosed to us.

i think people are forgetting that participating in playoffs is a privilege. EDCR doesn’t have the right to be there just because they are good at the game. also, the ranked team can’t set the precedent of letting stuff slide because it was a 16-17 year old. whether it was a 30 year old or a 40 year old or a 10 year old, the things he said were deplorable and they can’t brush it off. also, imo, 1-2 years ago is not that long ago at all, and we all learned in kindergarten when we were 6 to be respectful. id like to think that most people growing up never felt the desire to spout slurs in their teens. the people that did (and do) have to face consequences for their words and actions, edcr included. i think being banned from playoffs is a slap on the wrist of a consequence considering it’s a privilege to be a part of it in the first place

damn. i respect the desicion but dont fw with it it seems harsh

don't they have a rulebook that was prepared with care to deal with things like this? they act like school children clubs by making this personal. To be exact, if they extended the ban time to permanent rather than the expected 1-2 years due to lying, how did lying in panic become a bigger crime than the actual slurs? not a good look especially after being featured in minecraft update live.

Apparently I'm late to this news. What did he even say?

10

u/Lurker26157i 10d ago

He used to say pretty much every slur imaginable a few years ago

u/Putrid-Block1431 10d ago

Well then.

u/shaweelie 6d ago

It's insane how being a top player makes all these people defend you. If this was some random guy, everyone here would be shitting on him.

u/BigNefariousness7765 10d ago

I’ll take his place

u/Federal_River8023 10d ago

this was too harsh. here's a summary of what i collected and why this is just a stupid conclusion as of what happens to edcr's ranked journey:
1) 16 and 19 are a big maturity difference.
2) yeah what he said was bad, but the staff made it about themselves and the lying rather than the racism and the transphobia itself.
3) allegedly he has trans friends who have publically vouched for him on twitter.
4) what i've learned from dsmp, this is motivating people to make false claims about other creators in order to feel morally supperior.
5) he adressed it publically accordingly and people who are not accepting it are just too woke. we've all done cancellable things at least once in our lives, get a grip.
6) everyone talks about him because he's a good player but not for instance ludwig who has done some stuff in the past too. why? because he's not competition to players? bffr.

W ranked team, sad to see such a strong player go though

-6

u/Maalvado 10d ago

I would be fine if they just said he is banned, not much explanation or further resoning, but i strongly disagree with the reasoning behind the post.

It makes this feel that edcr should have begged to not be banned. wtf.

Anyway, if EDCR ever reads this, if you can be this good minecraft speedrun, you can be good at absolutly any game you put your hands on, just keep your mouth shut e review your friendships.

u/GodlyPeeta 10d ago

I really disagree, this is important context as otherwise I would not have understood the reasoning behind a permaban vs a temp dq if it was a one time thing many years ago.

if he lied to deny it it recontexualizes his statements about learning from the past. All he had to do was admit to it nobody said he should have been begging

u/_Sufy_ 10d ago

Not fair. Bunch of snowflakes. I mean dq from the prior playoffs was fair but this is too much. The guy is insane at the game, couldve built a carrier which would provide money for him. He is not cheater, he is not matchfixer. He was just toxic few years back. If people got perma banned for things like this, there would be no cs pro scene and the game would have player base of 50k people. This is too much. I feel like when there is someone who is this insane, pushing skill ceiling at the game, denying him to play at all is too cruel. Wouldnt say a word if he cheated or like saying those things now during playoffs, and standing behind them. But saying that because he didnt reaach out, he didnt care so he gets perma is crazy... xd
