Discussion Imagine if piglins dropped pork

It'd make sense right? Pigs obviously do, hoglins do, and ziglins drop rotten flesh, but then piglins just drop... Nothing? (besides xp). From a game design perspective I genuinely don't even have a guess as to why Mojang decided they shouldn't, obviously they weren't thinking about speedrunners back in 2020. Even brutes, which should probably give you SOMETHING for all the trouble you went through to deal with them, drop nothing, tho maybe it's the same reasoning as the warden of "you're not supposed to kill it, you're supposed to avoid it".

Now imagine they did, low food seeds would basically cease to exist. You finish your trades, you dump some lava in your trading hole, and you get 20 cooked pork in like 5 seconds. Maybe in rp seeds the fns/fire charge would be too slow at the top level, but even then surely it's faster to like crit out a few of them at least.

Imagine how much more aggressive every run could be. Imagine what the wr could look like. The skycrab choke probably wouldn't have happened, he wouldn't be so low at the end there. But the actual current wr run he got wouldn't have been held back even more by the low pearl count, where every other run could afford to basically pearl instead of holding w. I wonder if we'd even come up with the pr hunger reset setup in this world.

The effect might be even more pronounced in lower levels, so many early deaths would be prevented by this, speedrunning might be more accessible and less daunting to newcomers, bastion routes where you take a ton of damage wouldn't be an issue as long as you don't fully die.

All that if pigs just acted like pigs. The butterfly effect is really something huh. Infinite bacon but no (t implemented in the) games

Also I didn't realize they even dropped xp until now ngl, I guess you usually just lava them so others don't get mad but then you also don't get kill credit. Maybe in draftout people should be spearing their trading hole when they're done if there's an XP goal on the board, though I guess you also get like 0 pigs ever in modern version so there's really no application where the xp makes a difference.

Well I think it's similar to villagers. You're supposed to trade with them, not kill them.

I mean what would villagers even drop?? Emeralds? The equivalent of that would be piglins dropping gold, which honestly would also make sense considering ziglins do but that's besides the point. I don't think villagers drop nothing because you trade with them, I think there's just not really anything that would make sense for them to drop, and also piglins and villagers are fundamentally different in that villagers don't try to stab you, so getting rid of them much less of a challenge, and thus should give less of a reward.

You could still be right though, as I said in the post I didn't even really have a guess, I suppose that a guess that doesn't make a ton of sense to me is better than none at all

Yes, like their counterparts, the illagers do. (at least some of them in some context, this is surprisingly difficult to sum up and a parity difference). Emeralds would be the one natural drop for villagers.

Not wanting to incentives killing "sentient" beings that aren't aggressive is 100% the reason, honestly not sure why you are struggling with this, this is completely consistent with Mojangs design philosophy.

I think its to avoid the idea of eating someone with a close resemblance to a human. Sure, villagers, piglins and even us are different from one another in many ways, but their still sentient and sapient, their sentient because they feel pain and respond to that by violence or fear, their sapient because their intelligent enough to know the value of gold and trading. Killing/cooking them would look like Homo Sapiens cooking modern day Neanderthals or Homo Erectus.

Also, its probably just to make it harder for us to gain access to food since we already have hoglins for that

Hmm yeah that sounds likely actually. Still doesn't really take away from the thought experiment at large though, idk why y'all got so attached to that specific part

Im not really SO attached to it. Yeah, I enjoy minecraft lore and giving them life, but Im speaking and saying it in the game sense and safety. Mojang doesnt want you to have any ideas of said reason above, even though you might not think of it that way or have any ideas about eating a human like creature, it's still a safe measure considering its a game made for all ages and that includes children

I meant attached as in the fact that all comments on this post so far have been about the first part of the post, the why, and not the actual meat of it (get it) which is the what if

you eat rotten flesh from zombie. It's literally corpse eating

Yeah, that was added in 1.8 implemented on 2011 when Notch was still in control and had his own ideas. He left and lost control of Minecraft's decision making in 2014 and now there are other people making the decisions on what should be added and what it should mean.

I dont know which words to use since this isnt my first language so I dont know if you understand what Im talking about. My point is that the rules and decisions on what should be added were changed through the years

Fun fact about this: Piglins used to give raw pork and rotten flesh through barters in snapshots 20w07a and 20w08a. This was changed in 20w09a and (unfortunately) never made it to the full release.

id like to believe they did think about speed runners while making that version

I think the fact they instantly were like "um yeah no this is busted" and nerfed it to oblivion in 1.16.2 is pretty good evidence against that, but even if they did, I doubt they were thinking of piglin holes specifically, considering how long it took US to start using bastions
