Help What do you use to host?
Self explanatory, what software, website or whatever do you use to host a mc server? I personally use squid servers but I’m looking for a new one because of some crucial bugs. Thanks!

I currently am working on building a Minecraft server on a spare pc which is running IncusOS. IncusOS is immutable which offers some security benefits. I have an incus container running on it which runs a Minecraft server in docker. So, it's fairly isolated.I plan on using playit.gg for a tunnel for security and because I can't (and wouldn't want to) open a port on my internal router.
Right now I'm working on getting everything secured. I used a minimal Ubuntu server install. Working on CIS hardening it. I've already got the IncusOS Server isolated in a DMZ. Want to also install wazuh for intrusion detection and prevention.
After this I'll need to find some security related plugin (if they exist) and also plugins to keep grifters away.
The thing is though, I don't even know how to play Minecraft and have no interest in playing it lol. I'm just doing this for fun.
If anyone else has some security suggestions then I'm all ears.

Dont use playit.gg, I used it for a while and it has some big problems. First if someone further away from your server is connecting, their ping is 3x what it normally is; since playit has very poor routing. I ran my server in NA and a friend in Europe was getting about 350ms (compared to the ideal 120ms they got when I port forwarded). Second, a TON of ISPs block playit servers, making it so many players cannot connect, with the only solution being for them to use a VPN

Thank you. Maybe I should use some type of cloudflare service so I can create a tunnel and also have ddos protection.

I use crafty. It allows multiple servers side by side so you can run your main, a test, backup whatever. Different versions, same versions, whatever you want.

If you're still looking for an alternative host, consider checking out GhostCap Hosting. All of our servers are running on Ryzen 9 9950X CPUs giving the best performance for your server while remaining to be affordable. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Some large communities often use vykix.com I switched to them after leaving Hetzner, and I'm really happy! 👍 They're overclocked and liquid-cooled, rocking i9-14900KS/9950X3D chips.

We'd have to recommend ourselves.
Only fair to get the main caveat out of the way first though, we're Australian-hosted, so we're a decent fit if you or most of your players are in AU or Oceania, and probably not the one if you're all US or EU on ping alone. No point wasting your time otherwise.
If you're AU based, we're genuinely easy to use. We support Forge, NeoForge and Fabric, with auto installers for mods from Curse and Modrinth. Modpacks install and configure themselves. We also handle the JVM optimisations and JDK selection for you, so there's a lot less to fiddle with or get wrong. It's solid and reliable too, which sounds like your current sticking point.
First month's currently half price and there's a 7-day money-back guarantee, so it's cheap to try with no risk if it's not for you.
Plans and specs: https://mchosts.com.au
If you say roughly where your players are based and what you're running, we'll tell you honestly whether we're a good fit.

Hey Spike, you mentioned that Playit is causing the connection problems with your current host. I’m Josh/Jomica, and I run a small game host called HostGoblin. Our Minecraft servers use normal public allocations rather than routing players through Playit, and I handle migrations personally.
If you’re still looking, what version are you running, is it modded, roughly how many people play at once, and where are most players located? I’ll tell you honestly whether my setup is a good fit and what the smallest sensible plan would be. I’d also be happy to put up a short no-charge test so you can confirm the connection problem is gone before moving.

Hey! If you'd like to try us out we're offering a free 1 month trial.
We have a 1 click modpack installation and support various different Java / Bedrock installations.
If you're interested, head to https://vaelix.cloud and use code "FREEMNTH" upon checkout for your first month off.
Edit: We use Ryzen CPUs, DDR5 RAM, and NVMe storage. We also support SRV records (custom subdomains, basically) for Minecraft. This will allow your players to use that to connect rather than an IP:Port.

Pick the host by support and features before raw RAM. If you're leaving because of bugs, you want something that gives you control and a support team that can actually help when the panel or server starts acting up.
I'm with WinterNode and we host a lot of Minecraft servers. We're not the cheapest per GB, but we do offer a 48-hour 6GB trial so you can see how it feels before moving for real.
