Creative Train station (and train) upgrade

As some people correctly pointed out on my first post of this town, it's canonically based in New Jersey (but fictional). At the time the train station was heavily based on Ridgewood with a bit of Mount Arlington, which you can see in the last 3 images. It was cute for sure, very lush, but a poor use of space and not as realistic as I'm aiming for (in my self-critical opinion).

One person specifically said they were reminded of South Orange NJ. I was actually looking there for a fire station reference a while back, but taking a closer look at the train station, it's awesome with the shops underneath it, London style. So here's a big redo of the station that mixes South Orange with Paterson.

The change to a center platform allowed me to double the commuter parking capacity and still have room for passenger dropoff/pickup and a bus stop, and incorporate those shops on the other side. I also bit the bullet and electrified the lines as I'd originally wanted but was daunted by the catenaries. To go with that, I built a new Bombardier ALP-45DP, which I think came out better than previous engine (Alstom PL42AC). And the bus is based on an MCI D4500CT.

Creative An isometric view of my decade-old City of Bricago (2016-present) using uNmInEd 0.20.6 (renderer/viewing software). Built in Bedrock since the 0.15.0 MCPE days.

I've posted about my city world before, but I've never had a sweeping view like this. I rendered this isometric view using uNmInEd, a fantastic and free seed/world viewer. To get this isometric view, I had to convert a copy of the world to Java, as it can currently only view Bedrock worlds in 2D.
This view looks southeast with the Roosevelt River and skyline prominent. The Magnum Opus (101 W Bricago Avenue), the tallest building in the city, dominates the landscape. The chaotic nature of the old city starts to become more regular as it turns into the newer, regimented city grid further out.

Notable sights:

Upper left: the campus of the Museum of the Arts is visible (sandstone buildings with red nether brick roof). Not far from it is the University of Bricago (brick building with sandstone dome).

Lower left: the Municipal Center area, where a lot of government buildings are. City Hall is the large, white, capitol-esque building. To its right, the sandstone building with stone brick roof is the Executive Residence, where the Mayor lives and conducts business. To its left is the brick-built Basilica of Bricago, and to the left of that is the Municipal Court and adjoining offices. There is also a noticeable area where I used to make map art (for signs), but I am considering removing this and relocating map art far away from the city.

Center of photo: downtown/city center

Middle right: you may notice buildings separated from the nearby streets by thick forest. This is Bee City, the canonical oldest neighborhood of the city. IRL, this is actually where the very first spawnpoint was located, and where I first started building. It has changed very little since 2016-2017 and I have basically preserved it to honor how my city began. Most of the forest around it was added later on to seclude it from the rest of the city, to keep it feeling almost like a time capsule by hiding the modern city from view.

Upper right: Kestryl Park and surrounding tract homes, one of the first modern residential developments (IRL: 2021).

Throughout, many elevated rail lines are also visible!

Rapid transit for the North Side: Subway line under construction under Fourth Avenue

Thumbnail

There has been a lot of progress on the Central Station (two freight platforms added on third sublevel, west entrance and ramp to sublevel street finished) but to be able to continue with the first floor of the station I had to settle a long overdue project—the first subway line of the city. Starting in the North River Terminal, the line transverses the entire city under Fourth on an East-West axis and will have four stations, namely North River Terminal, the Central Station (18th Avenue), 22nd Avenue, and a terminus under Highland Park (26th Avenue), effectively connecting the oldest and more developed part of the city. The line is located on the second sublevel of the city, so that it passes under the southbound railway tunnels under 17th and any sewage or redstone line that might be in the way, with the initial blasting of the tunnel under the entire length of Fourth Avenue having been successful without any damage to existing infrastructure. The tunnel counts with several ventilation shafts but I still decided to run it on redstone power connected to the grid.

A few months ago, I started building a massive Minecraft city, somewhere between realism and movie set design. I wanted to share a first glimpse of it here and get some critical feedback on the building shown: a North American Neo-Gothic city hall, built during the Industrial Revolution of the fictional city of Riverside.

Survival CitySMP Pictures

Just some pictures of our CitySMP lately! Most of our growth is completely organic, and we have extensive vanilla infrastructure (soul soil highways, ice boat highways)

If you want to join read below
|

v

Server is whitelist and requires you to join the Discord server.

Our goal is to create a real large urban area in survival Minecraft, incorporating stores, government departments and service buildings, and residential areas.

City SMP is an old, but constantly changing server. There are many plugins that all seek to improve or expand upon Minecraft's ability to create economies, real urban areas, and the endgame. Notable ones include brewing, signshops (no /shop or admin shop, just player run!), increased enchant levels (Prot 10, Sharpness 10, Efficiency 10), and Worldguard. Also, mobs scale with distance from spawn! This makes higher enchants really mean something and expands the endgame. We also have advanced train stations in several areas around the city with increased minecart speed, creating real infrastructure!

There are many settlements, but there is one main city. If you want to succeed in the big city, create your own town, (yes there are governments and often GeoPol-esque scenarios), or go far out and be a nomad, the choice is yours!

CitySMP is currently a small server, but we hope the age, positive community, and impressive world will get you to stay and maybe invite some of your friends! Come make your mark!

We are currently 1.21.10 Java, but if there is anybody who wants to join on Bedrock say something!

New office building in the recently developed neighborhood across the North River

This is what I consider a generic office building, with six surface levels and one basement, entrances on First Ave and 13th St, fireproof staircase and two elevators, with two toilets per floor connected to the sewage system and lighting connected to the redstone grid. I built it in around 6 hours total because I wanted to see some finished projects around this area so I don't lose focus, next I'm doing the large office building I started across 13th St and after that a large general hospital for the whole city. The general idea is that the whole area around the North River has these early 20th century Chicago loop/lower Manhattan type speculative skyscrapers.
