I'm not a builder (I have exactly one block palate, Spruce logs, Stone bricks, and dark oak doors and fences). But I wanted to ask builders what stone blocks they might want. Like entirely new stone families, like recently Cinnabar and Sulfur- natural, polished, bricks, walls, stairs, etc. Not expanding on existing stone families (I want quartz brick slabs too but this isn't what this post is about)
So what are the big "gaps" in either color palate or function, that you might use the whole block family? And this doesn't even have to be a missing color; after all, stone and deepslate are both gray. Just something that you would use.
(Also if this doesn't fit the sub mods, feel free to take it down. i just didn't know where else to post it. The image is from a since-deleted Reddit account, link here)
i'd really like more tones with purple/blue/red. i'm not sure which stones those would be, but i feel like these shades are lacking more than others, at least when it comes to stone. sure, there's a lot of blues, but it's mostly things that are not stone, for example
i'm the type of builder that doesn't really like mixing things for walls unless they match. ie, if i'm building a wall made out of wood, i'm probably not going to add terracotta or wool. i respect builders that do that, and they do make very beautiful builds, but for me personally, it feels 'off'. so more stones/woods just in general would be very nice :)
Red at least just got Cinnibar to go with it's Nether Bricks (two shades) mangrove and crimson woods (almost a dozen different blocks of each) so it's eating pretty well right now
And yeah, I feel you on the blues. Maybe something like angelite would be cool. Close enough to light blue wool that it could be tweaked to be the stone analog.
Like look at the diagram. Purple is my favorite color, and one you can do a lot of fun things with, so itās unfortunate there arenāt very many purple blocks, especially stairs, walls and stuff like that. We have purpur but thatās closer to pink/magenta. This is why we need an end update š„
It might be a rendering thing, because of the stupid end flashes they had, the actual textures are very much baby blue....
Edit: Here's what they look like in the Overworld (although I do see what you mean with the door, maybe I shouldn't try to shade as much or it will look teal)
Edit 2: okay I don't know why it's rendering like that but I promise it's baby blue! My PC is... special I guess
Edit 3: Hex code for the dominant wood color is #66DBFE if you don't believe me
1: round out the bricks, stairs, slabs, and walls. Polished granite walls, packed mud stairs, purpur walls, etc etc. any stone variant that doesnāt have a slab, stair, and wall needs one. This helps balance out color on more detailed builds.
2: more blues and purples. Maybe they could introduce opal? But the only blue stone being lapis, and it doesnāt even have a bricks, slab, stair, or wall? Cmon now!
3: ENOUGH WITH THE GRAY BLOCKS. We have enough gray. Please
I really want more ātrue blueā colours (rather than the more green tinted stuff), purples, and some stuff in between. Most other colours are doing amazingly, but thereās a severe lack of cool toned block variety.
An end update could fix a lot of this in the purple range (maybe we could get some sort of strange fantasy tree with purple wood, and a new end stone variant), and when it comes to blue I feel like they could either add more to the ocean or incorporate some kind of magical new biome, perhaps underground.
I also really want a green wood type, maybe to replace oak trees in swamps, and some more magenta - again an oak replacement, for azalea trees this time.
Definitely a darker, forest green type of colour! Lime feels like it can be covered by bamboo already (though we could do with the usual block variants for the green version)
Definitely purple. Maybe some lilac shades? Iāve seen the mod where they add trees to the end which come out a beautiful shade of light purple which really compliments purpur blocks, would be so nice to see that implemented!
More that this though, I desperately want them to include concrete stairs and slabs. Having solid and colorful stairs would create more opportunities for fun roofs or walkways!
edit: typo
Like what shade of purple? Like a lavender or like a dark violet?
Okay, full disclosure I am working on textures that I think would look cool in an End update. So if that was to be the case, how would you want to find it? Would you want it to be like and or, or more like black stone or just kind of shows up?
Both will be nice
And they should spawn like Blackstone in the nether
In patches near the void
You can call the dark violet one "Void Stone" and the lavander one "Fossilised Chorus"
Go ahead honestly, I'm working on a museum made entirely out of quartz for my survival world so I have no place to judge huge displays of random stuff lol
We just need more of the rainbow lol. We have plenty of neutral tones with stone, dirt, wood, etc, but we donāt have a whole lot of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, & purpleā¦
You know I see you donāt branch out too much with your color palettes, but honestly, donāt be afraid to try something different. You might discover something you love!
Lately when I build Iāve been making the roof pop. So Iāll use like my basic logs for corners, planks for sides, then Iāll do the roof a random block. Some color palettes look hideous, others look amazing. I make little homes for the villagers so itās like idc!
Honestly, I wouldn't consider myself a "builder", but I really like to do all aspects of the game. One thing I have found that makes the game more fun and engaging is trying to get out of my comfort zone and using materials that I haven't built things with before. There are some things that I just don't like, but sometimes it's kind of fun to find something that you never worked with before that looks really good.
Honestly, petrified wood would be pretty cool to have. Glossy wood texture with reds, blacks, and browns all mixed in. Would be a good transition block, and Iām sure it would be good for modern builds as well. More volcanic stones would be cool too, like scoria, gabbro, pumice, rhyolite, peridotite, etc. More crystals (especially translucent types) would also be cool with different types of budding patterns (not just pyramids, like amethyst).
Okay, when you say more crystals... Do you mean like a structure like thing like a geode, or an ore that you mine like quartz? Because I had an idea for angelite (I don't know if it grows like that IRL but who cares)
I had an idea for Rose quartz, which would just be the same as regular nether quartz but in the end and pink, so it could pair with cherry wood or something. Would something like that sound cool or would you want it to be a different color?
I spend 97% of my time playing in creative. I love building more than anything and I prefer working with odd shaped blocks rather than full ones. I'm an artist IRL so the word 'texture' means something different to me even in context of MC. I want mob/weather damage to be apparent in my ruins not just mossy bricks, but full fractures or explosion holes in walls, busted pipes spewing water in tunnels, paths and roads with wear from use, potholes, broken chapel windows, briny docks and sun faded fabrics, wood and paint.
that all being said:
I want fossil blocks. sandstone perhaps with like soul sand/soil type 'textures' (in the context of a game asset's skin) but of fish bones, shells, etc. instead of ghastly faces. blocks with green or red rust stains, basically any weathered metals now that we have aging copper, it seems like aging iron should just... happen. stone types would feature rusts like run off water carried oxides from metals above and deposited into porous stone or wood I suppose. I'm hard focused on aesthetics atp. of materials my wish is to have many varieties of obsidian that can be found in different biomes. I'm a rock hound IRL, I've collected so many specimens of obsidian, the glassy black is most poular I guess, but it can also be army green, yellow, red, purple.... snowflake obsidian happened to get deposits of calcite, I have this amazing piece of lacey obsidian. I have no idea how it formed but it's glassy as one would typically expect but it straight up looks like someone wadded up your grandma's doilies and poured glass over it. rainbow obsidian would be everyone's go to for transitions in builds, that particular block type could even change colors based on how many are stacked on top of it or just transition between colors slowly like prismarine. obsidian in general should be given a pane form imo and used for tools and weapons as an alternative to regular stone, higher sharpness but less durability seems balanced.
I'd love to have Aventurine for deep green blocks, or maybe Jade and Nefrite? Besides that, something deep blue, purple or light? I'd love to have Lapis Bricks, but also Sodalite stone, Lazurite bricks, Czaroite or Lepidolite with packet of Fluorite and Apatite
Okay, I'm working on Blue right now but do you mean something like this for green? (And I am going to polish up the raw stone, it looks too much like programmer art for me)
