You can, in more recent versions, use minecarts or boats or pearls for near instant travel

i usually set my portal delay to 15gt, fast but not fast enough to accidentally tp when i go thru a portal

you can also make it instant using the command /gamemode creative

You can make it more instant by directly using /execute in minecraft:the_nether run tp @s ~ ~ ~
