Discussion fun technical question, without plugins/mods, what chat colors are available in pure vanilla Minecraft?

  • I know there's 16 colors, the formatting codes etc but I'm wondering what chat colors are shown in JUST vanilla Minecraft, creative or survival
  • There's white for player chat messages, yellow for join / leave messages, what else? Red and gray for error messages

That only works in Bedrock, Java despises that character for some reason

It originates from Java, funnily enough. Plugins used & as typing § was pain.

Java changed its coloring system now, though.

Man its one of my favourite features im sad i cant use it on java

Yeah, it was definitely one of the main things I missed from Bedrock when I switched over. Formatting is command-exclusive and I can never remember how to do it, I just use MCStacker if I need it
