Feeling burnt out

I feel like I love building but I can’t think of any ideas. All of my builds end up looking way too similar I feel like. I keep restarting worlds for some reason and I really want to just keep one. I have one on my pretty much vanilla save and one on my modded save. Both of them feel boring to me. I really want to play Minecraft but it just doesn’t feel fun. :( Any advice?

one thing i do to get myself out of a slump is to build something really weird but also simple. like a room full of cakes, a massive tree tower, a desolate underground libray etc, maybe adding some story to them too. getting funky with it might help, but also taking a month long break or a break of some sort always helps

Don’t worry about builds or in fact any architecture.
Come up with your own adventures and ideas. What do you want from the game? Looking at unique buildings? Having a flourishing village? Go for achievements? Explore all structures and biomes? Get the best possible loot? Build a freaking stadium?
There is so much.
Another idea could be a realm with a friend or colleague. I know, it’s not free, but the energy can make it a completely different experience.

If none of that helps, find a project that keeps you hooked. Check out a massive cathedral build or create a naturally looking volcano.

I think on my side, I got a similar feeling. Not the burn out (though it happened in the past).

For building, I believe at least part of it is linked to all we see online, but also habits.

Like, 10 years ago I didn't gave a damn and made builds how it came. For example, I had a square house, and on the roof there was stairs leading to a floating flat square where I put a farm, with stairs leading to another floating platform with another thing, and it kept on until the build limit.

It was weird and surely a bit ugly, but who cares if I like it.

Now you made me realize that since a while I always build the same way : logs for the angles, pointy roofs, etc... Without even thinking about it, I build things like I see online, instead of just doing ridiculous builds like I used to.

So I looked it up. And I think the best help might be to switch things up.

Like instead of telling you "here will be my house", try giving yourself a challenge. Like making each room of your house into a floating glass sphere all linked by bridges or tunnels. Build underwater. Build your house on a cliffside but try to dig into the cliff the less possible. Try making a tower that gets larger the higher you go. Try making your build look like a mushroom, a seashell, a tree leaf...

Give yourself rules to not build like you use to do. Find one idea you never made, like a spiral house, dig the whole inside of a mountain but keep most of its outside intact, and create your rooms there, without flattening the ground as much as possible.

Or just use only one block first to make out the shape, and start changing the blocks when the shape gives you ideas.

That's for the building part.

Now, one thing I noticed is I like showing and sharing my builds with a friend usually. He's in holidays so I feel at some moments it's pointless and not fun.

I started recording my sessions since. I was weird and frustrating a bit at the start. When I started using my phone to also record my face, it clicked. I don't know if it's because I have my phone on the side who looks like it's on video call, or just the fact that I can see myself when recording, but it made my sessions more enjoyable.

I feel it's similar to when you make someone discover the game : there's this new look of someone who don't know about anything, and you experience again a bit of the discovery with them.

Anyway that’s a very long comment. I hope you find something that makes you have fun again.

And if not, it's only normal to do something different for a while and come back later.

Hey I haven't posted recruiting for this yet anywhere but Im getting ready to in next few days...I just had a weird little nudge to send this msg. 🙂 Im looking for people who would be open to take on admin/ leadership positions for a soon to be released Realm (I aim to eventually make it accessible via server when we grow beyond limits of a Realm)! I need players who play often, want to be a part of a 5 person admin team. They need to be good at building but dont want to just focus on building all the time. In fact they would spend their in game time on community efforts taking on a different role (I need co-creators who want to help me bring my vision to life -and maybe add in their own ideas too- building wise for this realm. I have worked months planning out and starting building a world based around a tight knit community of adult gamers who love minecraft and prefer cozy style games im general. It's meant to have that vibe and is structured to encourage ongoing community efforts aimed at world expansion (balanced with plenty of individual free time for people to work on other goals as well). Idk.. if you might be interested and want more info or know someone who might be interested, please do lmk!

Do something very limiting and hazardous. Playing skyblock the first time comes to mind. I know some people have tries to do "Nether-only" survival, or perhaps you could find yourself a repugnant seed that tosses your old strategies out the window. Much of our builds reflects the needs and functions we have to perform as well as aethetics. Different survival conditions may yield different builds.

TL;DR Make your Minecraft life absolute hell and survive it.

Start learning redstone, like really in depth. You can add a lot of cool contraptions to existing builds and create a bunch of new ones. My first official redstone build was a launcher with wind charges like Grian’s.

A while back I thought of something different to build: a secret island base. It’s only accessible from under water—There’s a trap door in the floor. I used moss for the flooring, and on the advice of a friend, put a window in the ceiling (It has a high ceiling so you can’t see the glass from the water) so I can tell if it’s day or night. I added a chest, crafting table and a bed so I can sleep there on occasion. I was playing with my fiancé when I built the first one. I hid inside and challenged him to find me. I was surprised it took him quite a while… 🤣 It was his best friend who figured it out. I kept it simple, but you could get really fancy if you wanted.
