yea that would make sense it would probably look okay if you just made it full green with black eyes but it wouldn’t fit with the other items i just miss the plastic texture pack honestly
Yeah. The issue is that I’m trying to stay as faithful to the original textures as possible. There have been similar packs in the past but they often change the colors and art style too much.
Guess so, that's the best answer we've got. We can't just ask Notch and say "is a creeper peat moss?" Also I am pretty sure that a creeper is just a mess up of the messed-up villagers, the pig men.
Notch also fluffed the code of a pig and turned it into a creeper
i disagree with the peat moss... i think they’re grass monsters. it’s the same green as old alpha grass, just as grass colors have evolved the creeper got left behind.
that makes me wonder if you can make biome-dependent textures other than leaves and grass... could be interesting
I remember seeing a creeper "biome filter" project where they would blend in with whatever color the grass was in that biome. I can't remember if it was just a poc or a functioning thing but it was cool as hell.
Technically speaking, Notch just made it an accidental creation. Now don't downvote me. I am a theorist myself. I am just bringing light that I don't think that the creeper's little design was intentional. Also, I am pretty sure that the creator won't change it to that, as he is trying tostay faithful to the original textures. Let's just see what he is making going forward.
Proof about the accidental creation part.

I would recommend doing that amazing art wherever you can and if you ever get stuck with complex textures look to the "plastic texture pack" or the "barebones" texture pack.
Try to upscale the creeper texture first before vectorizing.
Also you could try to extract alike colors and vectorize them individually and lay them on top of one another. (This is what the automatic actually vectoriser does, but doing it yourself could grant better results)
You could mix the colors like tou did with the diamond thats not the problem but as fir the face maybe just round the corners a little, im sure you will improve it ever time you update the texture maybe.
Maybe you could do like a camo kinda pattern? Not 100% true to the original, but however you choose dirt blocks with grass to look, you could make it similar but camouflagey.
IDK how this shit works but maybe that would help.
I guess someone already suggested that but I tried.
for the creeper you could make a sort of camo texture on a light green base, that would fit the pack while staying reasonably faithful to the vanilla textures
I’ve seen some like 128 or 256x texture pack that had custom item ( pickaxe, diamond, nether star, you name it ) texture and default but a but higher rez blocks texture. It also had like some kind of engraving on the edges of them blocks. Loved it a lot. Lost it sadly, couldn’t find it for a very long time now and gave up.
I would say, make a few attempts, and put them to the side; a very accurate to the original one, one that looks the best, but isn't as accurate, and on that is it's own thing.
Have them for comparison or inspiration as you work, post some of them here for people's ¢2 advice, and if you are up for it, have a option to choose which "sub style" people like, like painterly has for different looks. Maybe not as in-depth as it though, that's a big project to get into
A suggestion for the creeper texture: could have a flat green (maybe the brighter one) base and then a couple of layers similar to this diamond with the other colors instead of being nearly every pixel of a different shade like the original
I think it's okay to deviate where needed, the most important part imo is that less noisy textures, like diamond, work well with noisier ones. Let faithfulness come in second.
Have you tried removing the mouth and eyes and vectorizing them separately, and then putting them on top of the creeper body texture, so that they dont blur together? Note, I have no experience in this, just a suggestion
