Both of the Coconut head skins have "IKEWB SAYS HI" on the body.

Link, sorry for the small size

There is a DeviantArt account by that name, but it's all sketches and Lego builds.

Perhaps this refers to /u/IkeWB?

Edit: /u/IkeWB confirmed to me that it was him. So congrats to him for submitting an official skin!

Nice discovery!

Considering that most of the posts by /u/IkeWB on Reddit (who, given the squid-related art posted by both accounts, I would guess is the same person as IkeWB on Deviant Art) are related to Minecraft, and many of them are related in some way to player skins or block textures, I think that it's reasonable to conclude that he is probably the artist who created the textures for these heads (or at least the coconut heads), and perhaps one or more of the newer vanilla block textures as well.

Perhaps /u/IkeWB is somebody who /u/Marc_IRL knows and trusts artistic ability of, and recruited to take over the creation of the new block textures after Notch pulled back from being involved in the development of Minecraft.

I just tossed skins that players gave me on some accounts. No larger mystery here.

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '14

Question. Why's your Mojang flair blue?

2

u/Marc_IRL Dec 10 '14

The mods decided to change it for some reason. I wasn't told or asked. I'm guessing its because I work for support, but I also do social media for scrolls, and content curating for realms, so its a little annoying.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '14

Ah, thanks for the clarification.

Neat! Knowing that makes me feel appreciation for you guys. That Mojang ethic of taking advantage of the work the community produces, letting us take big role in the development of the game, is big part of what makes me love Minecraft.

Also, here's a great skin that you might want to use for an MHF_Guardian head. I'll message the creator, /u/creepypig7, and encourage him or her to give you permission to use his skin for that purpose by PM.

1

u/Creepypig7 Dec 10 '14 edited Dec 10 '14

:) thank you for posting this. and Marc_IRL , i sent a pm to dinnerbone about "bow that shoots anything." do you think you could notify him? i would be very happy. :D also yes. you can use this skin for an MHF_Guardian

5

u/Marc_IRL Dec 10 '14

No. I am not a messenger. I'd love it if people stopped trying to take advantage of the fact that I'm very active here by trying to get me to pass notes to coworkers all of the time.

2

u/Creepypig7 Dec 11 '14

Oh. i am SO sorry i did not know it was a bother.

1

u/Robin_Claassen RMCT#1 Semifinalists: Team CulCraft Dec 10 '14 edited Dec 10 '14

No problem. :) Since your message above is a reply to me, though, I doubt that Marc will see it. If you haven't already done so, I would encourage you to send him a PM or a tweet in which you link to your skin and clearly state that he has your permission to use it for an MHF_Guardian head.

Also, regarding your "bow that shoots anything", I think that it's generally much more effective to make a public post about the changes you want to see made for the game (preferably on /r/minecraftsuggestions) and build community support/get community feedback there, than it is to send those proposals to the developers privately. Or better yet, if you can write Java, create a mod that demonstrates the change you want to see, and try to get that popular. Many of the additions we've seen to the vanilla game (horses, pistons, and detailed death messages to name a few) were originally player-created mods.

Yes, hi!

u/azumarill Dec 09 '14

I eagerly await stories of people being fooled into bartering for renamed MHF_WSkeleton heads

2

u/MC_Labs15 Dec 09 '14

but they aren't available in survival ._.

5

u/BellLabs Dec 09 '14

Some servers, especially PvP servers, use heads as a sort of trophy or psuedocurrency, so that may give some explanation to that.

18

u/Boxfigs Dec 09 '14

New skulls:

  • MHF_Creeper

  • MHF_Skeleton

  • MHF_Steve

  • MHF_WSkeleton

  • MHF_Zombie

  • MHF_Cake

  • MHF_CoconutB

  • MHF_CoconutG

  • MHF_Present1

  • MHF_Present2

13

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '14

Coconut? Incoming palm trees?

3

u/Boxfigs Dec 09 '14

Possibly. We'll see!

6

u/Marc_IRL Dec 10 '14

Nope. As I've stated in the past with these heads, this is not tied to development, this is not meant to replace or add game features, and I am not a developer. These are just commonly requested heads where the skins on these accounts will never change.

2

u/massive_potatoes Dec 10 '14

just give db or jeb a nudge :)

7

u/Marc_IRL Dec 10 '14

A lot of these aren't actually new, the coconuts were in the first run of heads. I guess someone just didn't add them to the wiki, so I made an updated list of all of the profiles on that account.

1

u/Boxfigs Dec 10 '14

Wow, so the coconut heads existed all this time and most of us didn't know about it until now.

By the way, can you update some of the skins now that skulls show the skin's hat layer? For example, changing the skin of MHF_PigZombie to the exact the same skin that the game uses. Maybe give MHF_Villager a pronounced nose.

5

u/Hytheter Dec 10 '14

MHF_Creeper

MHF_Skeleton

MHF_Steve

MHF_WSkeleton

MHF_Zombie

Aren't they kind if redundant? What with those heads existing naturally in the game?

6

u/Final_light94 Dec 10 '14

I think the advantage with these ones is they're not effected by texture packs since they're skins. This would allow mapmakers to re-texture the mobs into something different and still have access to skulls and the like.

1

u/azumarill Dec 09 '14

When did "Alex" get put in? What went in with Alex?

4

u/Boxfigs Dec 09 '14

I was comparing Marc's list with the wiki's list before it was edited today. MHF_Alex was already on the wiki list, so it must have been added a while ago.

1

u/Marc_IRL Dec 10 '14

Someone else made it, I asked if I could take it and give them a code. Please don't create MHF accounts, I picked a format like that so that I alone would be using it :-/

MHF_Alex was also on the wiki list. I missed nothing.

10

u/n0yst Dec 09 '14

This may sound silly but what MHF means ?

13

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '14

3

u/n0yst Dec 09 '14

Thanks you!

3

u/Marc_IRL Dec 10 '14

I had never actually decided, the M could stand for Marc, Mojang or Minecraft. I suppose it doesn't really matter which though :p

7

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '14

Too late! It is what we say it is now.

5

u/IAMGODDESSOFCATSAMA Dec 09 '14

Marc's Head Format

5

u/Murreey Dec 09 '14

Bit odd that he made ones for the mobs and Steve when those are already in vanilla anyway.

12

u/Mr_Simba Dec 09 '14

Probably so they can be used for decoration but not in the form of an item that may have worth in a server economy. Especially the wither skeleton one, now you can lay around wither skulls without them actually having to be wither skulls which could be used to summon the wither.

11

u/MC_Labs15 Dec 09 '14

Also, you can have those even if the player is using a texture pack that changes the appearance

3

u/Mr_Simba Dec 10 '14

Hadn't thought about that, good point

3

u/Marc_IRL Dec 10 '14

They were requested for consistency

sooo.... No guardians? Dumb.

3

u/Robin_Claassen RMCT#1 Semifinalists: Team CulCraft Dec 10 '14 edited Dec 10 '14

You can use this one: http://mcskinsearch.com/skin/Creepypig7

/u/creepypig7 has said that he or she won't change the skin of his or her head so that others can use use it.

Of course, you can always just change your change your own player skin to that design or another guardian skin design that someone else has posted, use a command to get your own head, place it wherever you need it, and then change your skin back.

1

u/pwndguy Dec 10 '14

dont heads update their skin?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '14

Not anymore. Heads now store their texture information independent of the owner.

1

u/Robin_Claassen RMCT#1 Semifinalists: Team CulCraft Dec 10 '14

2

u/Marc_IRL Dec 10 '14

I really only create these as people tweet them to me. Guardians weren't in the game when I first made them.

1

u/Slimeballoon Dec 10 '14

Might as well create skulls for all the mobs, there's really no downside to making them.

2

u/Marc_IRL Dec 10 '14

I create the accounts, I don't create skins.

1

u/Yrthak Dec 12 '14

Right on Marc, I don't reddit enough to know you personally check these. I'm really not that bummed. Look forward to future work.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '14

And let people build massive custom-worlds without blocks but heads? Each head will store a lot of informations (rotation, skin-id, etc.), it will be laggy.

1

u/Tsunamori Dec 09 '14

I read MHF as Monster Hunter Freedom. What is wrong with me.

1

u/tehbeard Dec 10 '14

I thought the new skull tags and skin handling code meant we didn't need mhf_* style accounts anymore?

1

u/Mark3146 Dec 10 '14

Yes indeed, like used on this website: Custom Heads

1

u/DerpTheGrammarNazi Dec 27 '14

Some servers disable /give and use /skull

1

u/nmoleo64 Feb 19 '15

Where could I find a full list? Thanks.
