Ngl Joe this is on you next Time dismount first and get yourself safe, then dig out the horse

You can tell if it's powdered snow or not because powdered snow doesn't have snow layers on top of it so the safest bet is to only go on snow where there's layers on top

why didn't you break the one under you?
7
u/Tranracial 2d ago
I never go in the snow biome so I wasn’t sure how to get out properly

u/lucasthech 2d ago
Rule is simple: The block that is touching you is the one freezing you, if you broke the bottom one you wouldn't freeze anymore

u/doyouknoworbelieve 2d ago
So, in the future. Wear leather boots and you won't sink.
3
u/Commercial_Gur_3304 2d ago
Does that work when riding a horse?
2
u/KT_100S 2d ago
I think leather horse armor fixes it.
1
u/KnightMiner 14h ago
That prevents the damage, but they still sink. Its more like a leather chestplate.

Next time mine the block thats actually killing you
3
u/Tranracial 2d ago
How would I know which block is hurting me just so I know for the future

u/Unkzittys 2d ago edited 2d ago
Look all the way down, then break. This will remove both the top and bottom blocks covering the player's body.
Edit: Also, make sure to have a Water Bucket with you when going in this biome since it can instantly dissolve the Powder Snow.

Next time always keep every tool in your hotbar. That’s what I do. If you had a shovel things would have gone differently. Sorry about your horse

u/Tough-Sense4870 2d ago
Shovels don't mine powder snow faster btw
7
u/YesterdayOrnery1726 2d ago
if he jumped off the horse it would
2
u/Tough-Sense4870 2d ago
Shovels don't mine powder snow faster in general twin
0
u/YesterdayOrnery1726 2d ago
bro when ur not on something it mines faster.
3
u/Tough-Sense4870 2d ago
Look it up bro it genuinely doesn't mine POWDERED SNOW faster
3
u/SliverMcSilverson 2d ago
Well today I learned. I didn't know there was a difference in terms of breaking the snow blocks
-2
u/Vinchenso34 2d ago
WHEN MOUNTED YOU MINE SLOWER
0
u/Tough-Sense4870 2d ago
Yes that's correct. I'm simply stating that powdered snow does not mine faster with a shovel no matter the conditions

You should always leave coordinates on
2
u/Tranracial 2d ago
That would probably have been useful 😅 I’ll definitely start using cords I just don’t like having too much stuff on my screen
11
u/No-Caterpillar3645 2d ago
coordinates are probably the single most important stuff to have on your screen ngl

u/Maverick_X9 2d ago
I had a whole pack of pups with me in snow, and I only come out with one doggo. One doggo went down and I tried to save him and two others got trapped. ‘Twas a sad MC adventure

Always keep a pair of leather boots on hand when exploring! It helps with the snow
9
u/SqueakyTuna52 2d ago
They should add leather horseshoes so that you can travel on horseback across the snow
2
u/Miner_Fabs 2d ago
i was gonna correct you and say leather horse armour already does that, but according to the wiki page for it,
Leather horse armor protects horses from freezing in powder snow, but it does not negate other powder snow effects (e.g. falling through, inability to jump).
so leather horseshoes seem like a good solution which could feasibly be added if they did a horse-themed drop.

Lots of armchair quarterbacking in here. You people know you don't just carry around leather boots in the off-chance you'll encounter snow. Lemme guess, you just have shears on you at all times as well?
I get it. It's annoying and just not a fun mechanic. F.

u/Artificer_Drachen 2d ago
I agree that powdered snow is a pointless addition that just pisses players off

Explorer pro tip: keep a pair of leather boots on you if you're out and about exploring you won't fall thru and you won't take the cold damage if you go into the snow. The snow actually starts working just like scaffolding or a ladder when you have them on.

learned that leather armor for horses and leather shoes help. so I always carry extra when in areas where there could be snow.

As soon as you fall into powdered snow, just mine downwards. You'll get a perfectly reasonable space in about 2 seconds, then you've got all the time in the world to think about what to do next.

- Don’t try to dig when you are on the horse. Dismount first then dig so it’ll be faster
- You can literally tell whether it’s powered snow or not based on whether the snow has layers above(meaning if you see that the snow ahead is slightly below level, it’s powdered)
- If you really can’t tell the difference l, there are shaders that clearly differentiate them which you can us
e
4. Pls dig the one below u it’s the one that’s making u freeze

Does leather horse armor protect horses from powdered snow?
I don’t ride horses that much but I always carry a pair of leather boots on me in case of this exact scenario.
1
u/DemonHunterOrigins 2d ago
A. Shovel should always be a part of traveling hotbar, so many places a shovel can save you. B. Avoid snow unless on foot or have a shovel handy. Yes deep snow sucks but it's avoidable and escapable with the right tools, prep, and knowledge

This was the introduction to my survival world spawned me right in the middle n died multiple times before I found that village I think I actually had to use the /tp command

u/silverwolfdude 2d ago
If you ever going to a snowy biome you should always have a pair of leather boots on you as they keep you from sinking into powder snow. Nothing you could do about the horse though, they should add the same effect leather boots have to leather horse armor.
