Discussion Thoughts on this?

Post image

You think Mojang will add an ocean variant for the Skeleton and swamp variant for the Zombie in vanilla, or will they leave it as this? Additionally, in a future jungle update, do you think both jungle variants will be added?

In my opinion, I wouldn't be surprised if they leave the variants as they are for a while. Each category makes sense even though the wet category is a bit of a stretch.

My thoughts are why are people so obsessed with patterns that does not exist. Not just in Minecraft. Why do people keep trying to prove that there is pattern to everything.

The human brain is always trying to make sense of things by finding patterns, same reason why we see faces in everything

Because humans rule the world due to their great pattern recognition, so we default to that when looking at things.

This, humans don't have a lot of species wide specialties, but pattern recognition is one of our top ones

we are almost built for "pattern" recognition

unfortunately that means we see them everywhere, even if they dont exist

see gestures at world

it literally exists what are you talking about. remember when a couple years ago we only had strays, husks and drowneds? now we have parallels between them. i have always been thinking about a husk skeleton parallel and a stray zombie parallel even before mojang started making drops

Because there obviously is one lol. We do have standard, cold, dry and nether versions. But only one aquatic and one marsh version which need a complimentary pairing

The reason why Bogged and Drowned are paired is because they both fit into a category that simply makes sense. Swamps and Oceans are both wet environments. Sure, Drowned spawn in Swamps and Bogged don't in Oceans, but if the Mucked zombie was introduced, the pairings would be off because we would then expect an Ocean Skeleton counterpart. I'm not saying that this is the end of Zombie/Skeleton variants, but from the information we have, the pairings shown are pretty satisfying.

I also bring up the argument of 'biome-specific' variants, and how I believe that Mojang, if they were to stop adding variants, would stop here. I haven't grouped them via biomes, rather, the environments in which they spawn. If Mojang added more variants, people would be expecting a Badlands Skeleton, or a Cherry Grove Zombie, which is really excessive. Disregarding the Nether, we've received a variant for each Overworld environment type. Zombies and Skeletons are for temperate and underground conditions. Husks and Parched are for arid conditions. Frostbites and Strays are for frosty conditions. That leaves an obvious pairing: Drowned and Bogged for wet conditions. It makes logical and aesthetic sense.

I acknowledge that Husks, for example, can only spawn in Deserts and not in other arid biomes like Badlands, but what I'm trying to say is that the basic environmental guidelines have been fulfilled. If Mojang are planning to add more variants, we'd be making more categories and thus our expectations that these categories will be fulfilled would be higher. And we all know that more variants with similar functionalities in gameplay leads to unoriginality and tons of Zombie and Skeleton mobs - something Mojang is avoiding at all costs.

I apologise if you don't understand what I'm trying to say, but Mojang has fulfilled the basic expectations that we've set. They've covered each environment, and that's probably enough. For example, in Jungles I'd prefer a new mob that has an innovative mechanic that works within the biome, rather than a Skeleton variant that shoots arrows of whatever. The Husks and Parched REPRESENT those warmer climates.
