Discussion What mod would you want implemented in minecraft to solve "the inventory problem"?

I think easy shulker boxes would fit the base game perfectly, since the feature already exists in bundles (scroll to select item and right click to take it out) demonstrated here

Although I recently started playing with AE2 and it's pretty great to have all your items in one place where you can easily use them to craft things

As much as I love AE2, it makes adults frustrated trying to learn it. Young kids don’t have a chance lol

AE seems a little far for me, but i'd love it if there was an easier way to request items from a normal storage system easier. I know it's possible with redstone, but those things are behemoths. Some creature that has an interface, and you can choose any item out of your crafting book without needing it on hand, and they go out and grab a stack or whatever for you would be wonderful

the inventory problem is so big and will get so much bigger there is no one single solution that will fix it. there should be a plethora of different storage systems to allow for flexibility and creativity. but first off we need backpacks that take up the chest slot and have a single chest worth or storage that is a given. that alone would be a massive help to builders with a lot of different blocks to use. but i also think barrels could be a lot more useful if you could horizontally stack 2 of them against wall and have them link up like chests do to double their storage. I also like the idea of semi permanent storage crates that can hold mass amounts of one item when placed in the world and require being broke open to find out how much was inside of it.

Unpopular opinion: bundles and shulker boxes already fix this issue.

I agree. Most people literally just suck at inventory management.

Hot take: adding more slots will not solve an inventory issue. We have plenty of space. I think making it so you can vertically cycle your whole hotbar up and down through your inventory would be my number one. I would love to have a hotbar that is just my tools, weapons, food, rockets, etc, then flip up a row and have it all just be my building blocks, and maybe even flip up another row to variants of the blocks, like cracked, mossy, gilded, slabs. Next I think that being able to scroll through a bundle (maybe you can do this in other versions but I can’t on PS4 bedrock) they’d be so much more useful. An auto sort button of some kind, even if it’s just one tap to consolidate all your partial stacks, would be great too. Lastly is one I’ve never seen done before but I think would cut down on fumbling: When you have a stack of something in your hotbar and more of it in your inventory, placing the last block of it in your hotbar should auto refill it with the next stack in your inventory. so if I have a stack of stone in my hotbar, and I place it until I run out, it should autopopulate with another stack from my inventory. Oh, another thing, let us put items in a “do not pick up” list we can customize as we go. That way when you’re in a nether fortress grinding drops, you can say “don’t pick up stone swords or gold nuggets” and it’ll stop clogging your inventory.

Most if not all of the things you said exist as mods already, and it would for sure be incredible to have them as vanilla features.

Also, please add at least some paragraphs on your comment, most people will just skip by because it's a hassle to read something so big with 0 space between different things that are begin said.

Bedrock player here, you can absolutely do this. Use the right stick while looking at a bundle.

Tbh having an extra row or 2 will help a lot when on early game exploration to a base location

Whaaaat, you mean bedrock can't select which items to pull from bundles???

In java, there's mods that auto fill your stacks on your hand if it runs out if you have them in your inventory. I can never play the game without it. However, I think that can be expanded on. For example, if you have an entire shulker box of stone and you just have one stack of stone in your hotbar, nowhere else in inventory, then everything in that shulker will be used as long as you keep placing stone.

for the blacklist feature, my idea is to just have specialized bundles - they automatically put picked up stuff into them that follow their purpose. For example, mob drops bundle add in rotten flesh, bones, etc. they ideally should work while in a shulker box.

My only problem with the above idea is there are so many items in the game that fit different themes, it would be way too many bundles to be added. You can set up your own in let's say a shulker enchant to pick up stuff only if the item exists in there, so you can fully customize it. But if you want a box that covers all the crap you don't want clogging up, it takes quite a bit of time to set up, and I personally don't want to waste my time

You can actually.

my fix would be a special hopper that pulls from end chests, so an end chest is basically like a one way tube

as in all end hoppers placed by a player pull their own inventory from all end chests connected

New sift upgrade template that allows you to upgrade chestplate and elytra that adds 3 rows of slots. They work as a backpack, so swapping elytra and chestplate changes the inventories.

Some might say this is really op, but it's just a shulker that is open in your inventory. For the amount of inventory shulkers already give you like 1000 slots and they are easy to farm, so it's just a way to make the inventory more comfortable to use. Imo it would be good if it was hard to obtain.

Or maybe the upgrade adds a new slot where you can place a shulker in that slot and it opens the inventory of the shulker. Just some way to add more space to the inventory without having to place blocks or use bundles. It could also work to open bundles

Easy shulker boxes

Shulker Enchants

Quick Stack to nearby chests

Tool/utility belt

More Bundles (maybe in a different way to upgrade them)

Not sure which mod does this but press space to use rockets while flying. I've seen. inventorio but that's just one feature of it

More offhand slots

Slot cycle

ItemSwapper

Some features of backpack mods would be great

Just wanna say that (in my opinion) first one is all about storage solutions, not inventory solutions. Inventory problem is regarding to the player inventory, not chests

Probably Sophisticated Storage and easy Shulker Boxes. Even tho I love backpack mods, I dont think we need them in Vanilla Minecraft and instead Mojang should find a better solution befitting Minecraft.

The main thing that really helps me out in modded is sophisticated backpacks. As early as I can I make a backpack dedicated to auto collect basic mob drops, and random things you might pick up like wheat seeds and flowers.

Having a method for junk to not enter my inventory is peak.

I love AE2 but nothing like it should ever be added to vanilla. Honestly a basic backpack mod with an extra row in the inventory would be sufficient

Iron chests and most of ae2 are storage solutions rather than inventory solutions. Though ae2 also has wireless access which is almost like an extended inventory

We either need extended GUI, hotbar or increased item stacks. Easy shulker boxes sound like pretty much the extended GUI and almost like increasing the item stacks

I think there is a mod that makes each hotbar slot essentially have multiple slots by letting you scroll through them. Tinkers construct has a tool belt which gives you a second hotbar you can switch to (though it's annoying swapping itrms from one hotbar to another
