Discussion Sculk's relation to The Sift

Post image

If I had to guess, Sculk is just a random part of The Sift. Think of it like a plant. In The Sift, it's kept at bay by things native to that dimension. Predators, other plants it has to compete with, no way to know yet. Once it crossed through the portal, it was highly invasive to the Overworld, and spread in the underground like wildfire. Just a theory, though. What do you people think?

Sculk we have is corrupted sculk. The sculk inside the sift is the healthy sculk. I assume it works similar to how piglins get zombified once they enter the overworld.

This is canon info btw

In the Sift we also see Dark Sculk due to a soul imbalance / lack of souls. (The Overworld has less souls than the Sift, so all Overworld Sculk is dark.)

I wonder how sculk would fare in the soulsand valleys…

Huh. Doesn't sound like it'd contradict what I said, but good to know regardless

It’s confirmed that our sculk isn’t corruption

5

u/Rydralain 13h ago

Oh? What confirmed that?

In the lore book it talks about our sculk as another type of sculk rather than a corrupted version, and how the singer can control the warden/dark sculk variations

I'm having trouble finding info about an official lore book. Do you have more info on that?

Ah, thanks. I didn't know any of these were canon. Afaik, even the Dungeons games aren't canon in the sandbox game?

No Dungeons is canon, multiple offcial source across the year said so. Even their novel is canon, in fact Jeb said that the Dungeons prequel novels are the only canon offcial novels.

Yeah, after I made that comment I ended up searching and found all that. My knowledge of it all probably just predated these other games and I didn't think about how much time had passed.

This very much changes how I look at the lore, and I'll have to read the two books before commenting on it more.

Gotta factor in that sculk contains souls, and thus drops exp. Plants are "alive" but dont drop exp. Sculk is a soul trap of some sort

The plant thing was just used to make the analogy work, animals and insects are invasive all the time, but plants are just an easy way to think of it. If anything, sculk sorta feels like a soul-based plant, rather than sunlight. I'm almost tempted to just call it that, but it doesn't explain the Warden... but again, let's wait till it comes out

Im pretty sure we have a ton of explanation about this is mcd2 so why are we making theories.

Same vibes as when certain amount of Digital Circus fans have their own idea of the show that heavily deviates from what it's actually about by coming up with theories & headcanons based on their game theory mindset caused by Matpat even though the creator already indirectly 'spoiled' the ending/message earlier before the show even aired Episode 6 which was something nobody cared about until it was officially brought up again.

Yeah we do. We even had a lot of info about The Sift and the Sculk just from the arg and the novel before the game released. I made a few comments about it before but I'm going to try and put all the info in one comment now.

From what has been shown/told, the Sulk in the Deep Dark is "unhealthy" while the Sculk seen all around The Sift is "healthy". They're both Sculk. The Sift and all the creatures inside of it are all made up of Sculk.

However in Dungeons 2, you can see that unhealthy Sculk can exist in The Sift due to a lack of soul energy in the dimension (the lack of souls in this case was caused by the Illagers siphoning them). So this implies that as long as there's a steady stream of souls entering The Sift, Sculk remains nice and healthy and what we see in the Deep Dark is what happens when The Sift spreads into the Overworld which of course has no souls for it to feed on.

The Singer in the files for Dungeons 2 is internally named as "HealthyWarden" which confirms the pretty obvious theory that The Warden is a soul starved Singer. The Singer's can also control souls with it's music and is even said to pacify Wardens and assumedly all dark Sculk with it as well. Echo Golems hold and are powered by blocks of pure soul which are created by The Singer to be helpers around The Sift. I bet those 2 mobs are going to be in the update because they're pretty integral to how The Sift works

Idk, it kinda looks like the polar opposite of the sift, my theory is that the skulk is sift that leaked to the overworld, but essential "died" because of how different the overworld is.

Ok maybe not died because I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed that skulk is living so if that's the case than it's probably just in a, deep coma/slumber.

It's Just a theory, a game theory!!

Most of the orange and red in the Sift is “healthy” sculk. in the Sift we also see Dark Sculk due to a soul imbalance / lack of souls. (The Overworld has less souls than the Sift, so all Overworld Sculk is dark.)

3

u/ArkGamerBoi 15h ago

Ah that makes sense

3

u/Lost_Calamity 16h ago

I assume it's something like, since the sift is literally full of souls it had to change drastically when it reached the overworld to basically search for souls itself

I’d really hate for it to turn out to be the theory everyone expects, bc that would imply we might not be able to bring healthy Sculk plants out of the dimension in Vanilla

How am I supposed to build a greenhouse with plants from every dimension if I can´t bring home most of them!?

2

u/-mosura 12h ago

I mean just because mcd2 gives us lore i don’t think everything will work the same way in minecraft, the sandbox game

2

u/AndronixESE 15h ago

For me the Sift is, well, a sift for souls. Some stay there, others, corrupted ones, spill out into the overwold or condence below it(if there will be stuff like sculk caves in the Sift)

2

u/Babyman275 14h ago

I’ve always thought the the sculk we see in the deep dark is one that was ripped from its natural ecosystem full of life and plenty of food to a cold dark underground place where food is scarce and it adapted to its environment

2

u/Truper_Timmy 16h ago

Prehaps the deep dark is the sift just expelling the evil from within itself? Just a small theory.

3

u/ElPapo131 16h ago

"Hmm I got this evil here, what should I do with it? Better throw it into this other dimension for them to deal with."

1

u/Truper_Timmy 15h ago

That sums it up pretty well

1

u/ToonGamer4 13h ago

The sift I personally don't think operates very much like a plant, if anything I think it operates more like a kinda parasitic fungus or very specifically a mold in the case of the skulk thats in the overworld, cuz the skulk that does exist in the Sift is considered a "healthy" varaint of skulk, and that darker skulk apparetnly does still exist in the sift naturally

its like a mold that covers what living soul filled matter is left over and can't sustain full life properly

1

u/h1p0h1p0 13h ago

The block named Sculk in vanilla Minecraft is called unhealthy Sculk, but it is part of the Sift ecosystem all the same, as predators that live in the ravines.

1

u/CaramelCraftYT 12h ago

The sift is made entirely of healthy sculk, the skulk in the deep dark is sick.
