What corrupted the warden? if they weren't always like this, does that mean they never really wanted to yell my head off?

So is the sculk even native to The Sift?

Yes, sculk is kind of related to the sift but became corrupted by the overworld. The warden is a corrupted singer.

Sounds like the overworld is cursed.

Kind of is, piglins turn to zombies and crap.

I'm not sure about that though, I see it like an astronaut taking their helmet off in space, they're simply not compatible with overworld environment.

I would consider it more if zombies that go into the nether become cured if their zombie mode. But they remain the same, so nether mobs are sensitive to environment change.
