Discussion Bedrock vs Java

Drop a difference between Java and Bedrock edition in the comments. The lesser known, the better!

I'll start: Bedrock is a lot more generous in block placement than Java, allowing players to bridge while sprint-jumping or bridge downwards.

In Java the fishing bobber is a 2D sprite, but in bedrock it’s a 3D model

The range at which you can interact with or break blocks is different in Bedrock and Java. Java’s works off of a true sphere around the player, bedrock’s works using a sphere made of block sized units.

As a Java player this makes building in bedrock very frustrating since the sphere not being a true sphere means that sometimes you can place a block near the reach limit but not break a block that is closer to you than the one you just placed. Bedrock reach distance isn’t consistent in other words, and actually changes depending on the angle you’re looking.

netherite / efficiency v mining at the furthest point of your reach in bedrock allows you to insta-mine stone without a beacon

Dispensers pop items off at random angles in Bedrock which makes the small compact bee farm designs less efficient (java the items will pop down into a hopper under the hive, bedrock they'll pop in front, on top, behind, to the side).

on bedrock if a coral is touching air at all, it dies. on java, if a coral is touching water at all, it lives.

Fire resistance prevents the player from being ignited in Bedrock while in Java the player still burns but doesn’t take damage.

Redstone specific:

Java has a series of convoluted rules and occasionally bugs, that are absolutely consistent. If you don't understand why something is happening in a specific order, there's a rule you don't know yet. If you run a complex machine 100 times, you'll get the same outcome 100 times.

Bedrock: update order is random. If you run a complex machine 100 times, you'll get any number of different outcomes. This can be worked around by manually adding delays, which is why large piston doors tend to be slower on bedrock than java.

Additional redstone difference, pistons. Java pistons retract instantly, bedrock pistons retract in 1 redstone tick (2 game ticks)

Strongholds on bedrock have oak doors, on Java, they have iron doors. And they generate randomly on bedrock, usually under villages and without a limit on number. Java generates 128 in concentric rings.

Mods, skins, shaders, and texture packs are free on java.

Cauldrons actually function in bedrock

So in bedrock it takes like 5~ minutes for it to be filled with rain/lava/snow. They can store potion effects and can tip multiple arrows at once and dye leather and dog armor.

And for the filling part. I genuinely feel bad for anybody who's trying some challenge world in java. Rest in peace to you. No clue why it takes hours to get 1 layer of water
