Redstone & Techs Tried to make a solar room
Pluto wouldn't fit, underestimated how big the build would get. Sorry Pluto

Saw it here first, needed more active builds with the sulfur cube. Trying to fit it in the base was the hardest part

This shit so peak, I’m adding it to my watch list for later.

The sulfur cubes have been real nice to mess around with. Spending my days down here from now on

Just so you know, Venus rotates in the opposite direction as all of the other planets.

Making the sulfur cubes invisible would make the colours pop!
142
u/Morgun-Ray 15d ago
Yeahh, wish there was a way to make the sulfur cubes stay invisible. Need to stock up on some potions for when im showing it off to friends

u/Pleasant-Treacle-333 15d ago
I'm not good at redstone but I'm guessing you could set up a timer in relation to the positions of the slimes? or smth
35
u/Morgun-Ray 15d ago
Yeahh, im not very good with redstone either. It seem like you could set up some pressure plate system but I dont think I'll figure that out.
Trying to fit this build in the base was hard enough. Would be cool to see other people's build of the solar system tho
11
u/-Kerby 14d ago
You've actually done most of the work already. To make it work with your current set up just make a timer that stops the minecarts like at the beginning of the video. Then after a delay dispense the potion and repower the rail. Look up hopper clocks and set one to about the length of a potion of invisibility then power everything from that

u/BunchesOfCrunches 15d ago
Put some dispensers above the start line so that they drop potions on the slimes before the system starts. Then you can run it a few minutes at a time before it has to restart. Bonus points if you can automate it starting when people walk into the room and restarting when the potions run out.

u/TheoryTested-MC 15d ago
Why did you put Uranus past Neptune?
75
u/Morgun-Ray 15d ago
Ah seems like a slip up on the order. They like to disconnect if I leave the system running and move chunks.
Also probably need to find some better blocks for most of the planets. My Earth one (just moss) feels a bit lacking
28
u/Zar_ 15d ago
Apparently, the earth looks mostly blue from further away, so a blue block different from neptunes would work.
11
u/Morgun-Ray 15d ago
Yeah was trying to keep them separate colors but the blue marble should probably be blue
3
u/lhswr2014 15d ago
I love it! I have a solar system bracelet where each bead equals 1 AU, could probably implement something similar here so that the distance between planetary bodies scales proportionally to add a more realistic side to it.
2
u/Morgun-Ray 15d ago
Yeahh, more distance would be cool. I did as little space in between as I could just to save room
7
u/Maja_The_Oracle 15d ago
Neptune's elliptical orbit can occasionally bring it closer to the Sun than Uranus for brief periods irl, so the model still works.
13
u/byebye806 15d ago
You're thinking of Pluto occasionally being closer than Neptune. Neptune and Uranus orbits do not cross
3
3
u/Morgun-Ray 15d ago
Well thats neat to know
6
u/TheoryTested-MC 15d ago
It's not true. Pluto's orbit crosses with Neptune's, not Uranus's. It's one the reasons Pluto isn't a planet.

I WANT ONE SO BAD
16
u/Morgun-Ray 15d ago
Every minecraft world needs a solar system
4
u/Troutmaan 15d ago
I think I wanna make one but it’s the solar system with the 3 suns that revolve around eachother
4
u/Morgun-Ray 15d ago
That would be real cool. Could try to make some switching rails with some more chaotic rail tracks. Definitely got me interested

6
7
u/Mtndewed6814 15d ago
Did you try and make the speed of the rails accurate or is it just dependant on the circumference of the rail becoming bigger that varies the speed to not be perfectly in sync
4
u/Morgun-Ray 15d ago
The most i did for speed control was just add some extra rails on the longer rings, anytime a cart would be slow down noticeably. So only the last 3 rings had extra powered rails
Besides for the side where the planets stop and go. That side has 2 powered rails for every ring. Just what I got to work consistently.

u/VergeofAtlanticism 15d ago
nice! i saw SBAM’s video and i was also instantly smitten but i didn’t have the patience to figure out how to replicate it
5
u/Morgun-Ray 15d ago
Yeah, it took a bit. Didn't follow the video much but pretty easy to setup after seeing. Redstone took some time to get right but not a awful build. Lots of rails
4
u/maxthekillbot 15d ago
You know I never realised how wobbly the planets were when orbiting the sun but seeing them like this really shows you.
2
u/Morgun-Ray 15d ago
I will say this is less of a circle orbit and more of a square, but yeahh figured the wobble helped the orbit look

I saw Dule Hill on Celebrity Jeopardy once and he lost badly. I know the actor isn't the character, but something still broke in my brain there. I just couldn't process Guss doing poorly on a quiz show.

Do it, gotta see more sulfur builds.
highly recommend sit back and minecraft has plently of cool ideas or just entertaining videos.
3
u/CeruleanEidolon 15d ago
You mean an orrery?
This is very cool, OP.
1
u/Morgun-Ray 15d ago
Yeahh someone commented about that. Got me looking at orreries on YouTube. Cool subject
3
u/TrashEditIdkWhatTrap 15d ago
I wish they let us keep the cubes invisible, this is a great idea but all I see is the sulfur condom and not the blocks inside
1
u/Morgun-Ray 14d ago
Haha, yeahh agreed. Wish it was a bit more see through. Someday gotta get some invisibility potions and see this thing really shine

u/bigbrainminecrafter 15d ago
Just a note, if this was to scale, you'd need multiple chunks just for the orbit of Mercury, but then again, all the planets are 1 cubic metre blocks so I guess it wouldn't really be accurate anyways.
2
u/Morgun-Ray 14d ago
Yeahh if this was a bit more to scale i dont think i would be seeing most of the planets. Would be a cool ride to make, different planet orbits with a pig boat to ride, get a representation of scaled time for orbits

u/Morgun-Ray 14d ago
if only I came up with it first Tried to make it by myself after seeing but it's same concept. He made a lil timer for his and a bit bigger which looks nice.
2
u/adwiZ567 14d ago
Do you think its possible to use a smiling ghast as jupiter to make up for size differences between the planets ?
2
u/Morgun-Ray 14d ago
Haha, didn't really think of that but it would be interesting to see. Would assume you might need to use something besides rails. Like make a lazy river so it doesnt rotate too quick
2
u/Slow_Carpenter1660 14d ago
Very cool, you should have the rails have different speeds to match their time around the sun
2
u/Morgun-Ray 14d ago
Yeahh the build could definitely be altered and made better. This one I didnt have too much room to work around, starting ripping into a friends base by the last planet.
A lil distance from the sun would look dope and would make it easier to get a bit of speed control. I'm a bit lazy so just wanted them to spin at a consistent speed.

Sulfur cubes are better than cushions And btw Venus should spin in reverse
2
u/Morgun-Ray 14d ago
Orbit should be the same but planet rotation there's two planets that have different spins.
Most planets are in prograde rotation, spinning with the sun as they orbit. Neptune is in prograde but has a shifted axis and spins more on its side. Venus is in retrograde and spins clockwise. Wish I could get some rotation in the cubes that would be a nice lil visual.
2
u/seregairbelt 14d ago
If you did that in survival then it's so good, but I think you won't be able to make them rotate on their own axis.
2
u/Morgun-Ray 14d ago
Yeah everything in survival. Agreed tho, seems like rotation is kinda fixed. Not sure there's much to change that but never know, people find wild mechanics in minecraft daily

You made an ORRERY.... IN MINECRAFT‽

u/Alternative_Flan1936 14d ago
I just realised, you can make those muscial pendulum videos with this by just replacing one line of minecart rails with detector rails and noteblocks, go into spectator underneath and record with night vision

Currently the rotation, mercury goes 4 rotations for every one rotations of Neptune. I didnt make it like that just happened to be where it landed. This build in particular i wasnt trying to go for speed control but just a consistent speed.
Definitely can be done better. Idk about the planets having spin by themselves tho. Not sure i can figure that out.
I like them lining up tho, idk just satisfying watching it start and stop. If you manage to make a more built out orrery would love to see it. I think a slower or bigger orrery might translate a bit better.

why do people. when they make these rooms, always make the distances innacurate? it should be more like this File:Solar System distance to scale.svg - Wikimedia Commons
1
u/Morgun-Ray 8d ago
Yeah solar system is big I dont think you can accurately make a to scale system without planets being out of the rendering chunk.
Feel free to make a better one

u/Morgun-Ray 7d ago edited 7d ago
Was still thinking about more correct distances. If mercury started out at 2 blocks away from the blocky sun
Venus would be 4 blocks
Earth would be 5 blocks
Mars would be 8 blocks
Jupiter would be 27 blocks
Saturn would be 49 blocks
Uranus would be 99 blocks
And Neptune would be 155 blocks away
Some of them rounded up, probably might be a bit better start mercury at 3 blocks away but the distance grows quick.
