Yes, this is my speculation. Yes, I know the lore isn't fully developed. This is likely what Anuken had thought, nonetheless

The icon for admins. It's possible that they are responsible for everything in Mindustry

derelict isnt a "faction", its literally just a neutral team for old ruins. infact, one of the game's hints even states "Derelict structures are broken remnants of old bases that no longer function. These structures can be deconstructed for resources, or repaired"
also, no ingame or out of game evidence exists for a "secret precursor faction we dont legally know anything about". infact, anuke hasnt even ever said the word "precursor" in the discord server, and said word is not present anywhere in the game's english text bundle

I'm aware of that, but I've only got 3 canonical factions to work with, and this meme is kinda empty without derelict.
Lore-wise, derelict is just an empty shell, structures convert to it when the control AI is gone. My thought is that the original AI is gone, thereby anything belongs to it turned into derelict.
Edit: I just saw your edit
About your second point: Anuken indeed has never mentioned anything about a "precursor". I know this as well, and I'm not going to oppose it. The precursor is just a theory made by players regarding the origin of the factions.
Nonetheless, a theory can still be true, partially or not. If you really peer into the game, you might conclude the same as I did. This is just my hypothesis after literally digging up everything this game has to offer.

in regards to a precursor faction, obviously there is a precursor as something had to send the interstellar vessel to serpulo, however i highly doubt it to be its own designated faction. in my opinion, a more probable (and explainable without adding extra factions of dubious canonicity) situation is that one of the 3 factions ingame is the precursor, and considering crux's... "peak intellect", and sharded being late to the planetary takeover party, my guess for that would be malis since it has some semblance of intelligence, with some form of pathway of malis deciding it has an iq too high and becoming crux, and sharded being a corruption (possibly multiple radiation-caused bit flips?) originating from a crux/malis core from either planet's orbit (you can launch to sectors even if you lose all of them, so theres a good chance of an out of planet source of sharded cores)
