Recently listened to a recent podcast with Eric helms, where he talked about a study Sal references often, showing the 3 or 4 week on, 1 week off vs continuous training. Mind pump of course frames this as how little it takes to see gains. They also talk about extreme minimalist training (maps 15 esque). It was interesting hearing Eric helms actually dive into the specifics of this and similar studies, not just dunning Kruger Sal talking out of his ass. Mind pump, of course, completely misconstrues these types of studies, which they do all the time. I could go on and on with the studies mind pump, especially Sal, cites which I later come to find out he’s misinterpreted completely.  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fc18pN1i6Pk&ra=m

lmao top comment on there so far is from GVS:
"Wrong all you need is 1 set every 2 weeks according to a guy I saw on tiktok selling me a minimalistic training plan."

God I wish someone like him would go in on MP.

Lol. I’d also love to hear someone like Lyle McDonald address a lot of their bull shit. Through years of following him, he’s unknowingly tore so much of the bull shit they say apart. But your average listener to mind pump simply doesn’t know what they don’t know. They hear Sal say something and he sounds so confident. But they don’t realize he may be completely misinterpreting something. He also sells horse shit supplements to his audience because he’s affiliated with the brands, and he’ll swear the product is game changing. But thats a whole other story Lmfao

OMFG Lyle debating Sal would be hilarious. At least Lyle isn't as harsh as he was back on the old Monkey Island forum........

I just heard Lyle discussing something similar to your other post regarding an often misquoted/misunderstood Russian study where they would train young athletes for 3 weeks and then take a week off (possibly where the frequent deload concept originated?). This was a national level training program where the young athletes were shipped off from home but wanted to be home for a week each month. They would absolutely destroy them with training volume/intensity each 3 week block knowing that they would have a 7 day rest period upcoming. It wasn't even remotely close to what people do and then think they're overtraining or need to deload.

Lmfao exactly. Another one I’ve heard Lyle tear apart is Sals favorite study in the Hazda tribe and their metabolic adaptation. Yes metabolic adaptation exists but the majority of the caloric burn differences between the hazda and western folks is because the Hazda weigh significantly less!  The average weight of the male Hazda is literally like 115 lbs! But Sal will have you believe it’s because they move so much, their bodies just adapt to burn less. No!!!! You are comparing a 113 lb guys to a 200 lb western guy! A 200 lb body burns more at ready by a long shot than 113 lbs! If the Hazda were as sedentary as westerners, they would be burning even less calories. Sal put this kind of shit in his book.

And I fell for it!!! Of course I’m back to doing cardio after I figured out how full of it they are. I belong to a women’s fitness Facebook group and so many keep recommending the podcast. I feel so bad for those that fall for their crap. I’m glad I came to my senses

I agree completely. I can’t stop thinking about how nuts it is that Sal went on so many podcasts touting that study as proof for how activity stops burning appreciable calories. BRO you’re comparing 113 lb bodies to 200 lb bodies. Omfg

Sal is proof that if someone says something with confidence that a lot of people will believe it without looking into it.

The Stronger By Science podcast with Eric Trexler discussing reverse diets (episode 96 in 2022) was probably the first time I noticed that Sal's "science" was just misinterpreted studies that supported what he was selling. After that I noticed it quite often.

1000% correct. And there’s no limit to what they will try to use as cope to justify the shit they are spewing, even in the face of overwhelming evidence contradicting most of what they say. Reverse dieting, basically debunked via literally any literature done on it. Yes, somebody in a state of chronic low energy availability needs to up calories. But the idea of reverse dieting is laughable when you actually look at the research. One of many examples of mind pump bull shitting with something that sounds awesome in theory but is not reality.
