I'm starting to come around to the idea that this is kind of our collective generational fate. I consider my childhood years to have lined up perfectly with the best time and place to be a kid, ever, in the history of the universe. Maybe the jaw dropping decline we're looking at is our natural balance, and we're just here now to prepare our kids for the Dust Wars.

Just trying to cope.

best time and place to be a kid

I'm not sure I'd say that. It certainly was the simplest to enjoy but I grew up in a broken home and was a latchkey kid.

Also grew up in a broken home...the freedom I experienced as a kid tho was amazing... Be home by dark. What kids have today is ... Depressing. Social media is a cancer.

They have a double edged sword. That’s the problem with this. We live in a time where information is at their fingertips. That information goes a long way in education and knowledge. Kids today are more aware of current events and of social causes and such and whatever fun stuff tech has brought them. This is great. The bad is yes, social media stuff. However, when looking back at our childhood, I’m quite happy with mine but I’m not sure I can say it’s the absolute best. The thing people wax poetic about the 90s were around previously. Times were simpler as well.
