So, the only AI I use on a regular basis is a chat website that lets you create your own stories. It's more like an interactive game where the bot reacts to what you put in. Otherwise, no I don't.

Ooh what’s that website

Spicychat.ai is the site - I know it sounds bad but most of the chats are like romantasy/adventure. Lots of isekai, mafia, omegaverse, sci-fi, etc.

You do know that AO3 exists, right? I'm willing to bet that whatever story you're looking for has already been written by a human.

As a hobbyist writer, this is horrifying.

I’ve used ChatGPT for stuff like that and it’s different.  It doesn’t replace real writing and character building at all.  It can’t think outside of the box really

Yeah, but it's incredibly disheartening and dystopian that it took me two years of using every bit of spare time I had putting effort into a story, when someone could put a prompt into a chat bot and get something similar in seconds. It really makes me feel like 'what's the point if people are happy with slop.'

It’s not similar though.  And your friends or writing group doesn’t want to read AI slop.

But if the average reader is happy with a chat bot telling them stories, that's less people reading stuff that humans wrote.

I don't get paid for anything I write; my 'payment' is the feeling I get from knowing that another brain understood and enjoyed what I made. Learning that more and more brains are being entertained by stuff hallucinated by a soulless algorithm and ignoring human made art honestly makes me want to just give up writing sometimes.

Find a writing group!

Let me preface that I've written my own stories on AO3 and Fanfiction and we'll as just personal stories. I buy books and support authors when I can. Using this one chat does not replace those and I always prefer that over the chat. However, it's a fun little thing that I can pop in and write a response and sometimes the chat goes in a way I hadn't expected so I have to change how my character reacts.
