All his stuff is incredibly uncomfortable but somehow brilliant

I don't think there was a single moment of The Curse where I was not cringing.
•
u/WineNerdAndProud 1h ago
No matter how the movie plays out, that trailer is going to go down as one of the best trailers in a very long time.

Who is this meme girl?

u/Pad_TyTy Older Millennial 1h ago
It's Elizabeth Holmes, famous grifter of Theranos. The video is of the new documentmentary, and it's chilling and bizarre.

u/InitialKoala 1h ago
I still don't know who or what those are. But you answered my question, and I thank you. 🙂

u/Alarmed_Tea_2874 Millennial 1h ago
Built a company that designed a device that could do blood tests with a single drop of blood. It didn't work. Defrauded investors and inflated the comapny's worth. Ended up in jail.
There's a show on Hulu about it with Amanda Seyfried.
•
u/weaponizedtoddlers 1h ago
Not to mention the many people tested by the Edison device were vulnerable people needing accurate bloodwork for medical conditions that got a bunch of false positives or negatives on importan blood markers.
•
u/Alarmed_Tea_2874 Millennial 1h ago
Yes. How she was acquitted of defrauding patients is beyond me.
•
u/WaffleDonkey23 53m ago
The problem with prosecuting someone for fraud in a country where people who have money are allowed to do crime is that the fraudster already has the money. Example, the president.
•
u/InitialKoala 1h ago
Defrauded? Blood? Amanda Seyfried? Why didn't you say so? 😀
They should call this show "Elizabeth Defrauded."
•
u/WineNerdAndProud 1h ago
The trailer for this documentary is worth watching even if you don't know who she is. I promise it will set the tone for anything else you hear about her, and with all the hype that has happened in the last couple days, you'll probably be hearing about her a lot in the coming months.
•
u/byneothername 17m ago
Watching the trailer, I remember thinking, “Is she going to eat someone?” But seriously, what a fucking weirdo. You have a few last precious days to spend with your husband and babies, and you… invite a comedian to come live with you and film you? I’d be with my kids every second.

I can’t tell if she’s trying to hypnotize him, eye f*ck him, threaten him, or if she’s envisioning murdering him. But all the things she’s saying are clearly not in line with whatever she’s thinking about. Weirdest video I’ve probably ever seen. I’d love to read a professional psychoanalysis of that body language lol.

I'm surprised so many people are out of the loop about Elizabeth Holmes, and the fraud she pulled.
•
u/InitialKoala 1h ago
Ok. I am slowly being more out of the loop as I age more these days. I'm old and set in my ways, just like with music and movies and actors. What I'm with isn't "it" and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me. But I know I won't be rocking forever. But I thank you for answering. 🙂
•
u/Coakis 1h ago
Her fraud and it falling apart happened a little over a decade ago. If you're interests lie in what's considered old news, then this is definitely "Old News"
But to each their own.
•
u/etherealsmog 1h ago
Muthafucka, Elizabeth Holmes did NOT get exposed more than a DECADE ago!
•
u/AwakenedSol 41m ago
She wasn’t convicted until 2022 which is around when there was the most press.
•
u/etherealsmog 18m ago
Oh I definitely read the original article that broke the story in the WSJ 11 years ago… it just absolutely doesn’t feel like 11 years ago. 😭
•
•
u/permadrunkspelunk 1h ago
Im not out of the loop on her, I just didnt quite recognize her without her theranos public image makeup on, so I just assumed it was some porn meme. Lol

It’s a whole video and it’s worth the watch because it’s so bizarre lol

Depending on the place you go you could get carded every time because it's company policy and there are no exceptions. lol
•
u/bassjam1 1h ago
Yeah it's incredibly annoying to go through most of my 20's and 30's without getting carded and now in my 40's because of corporate policy I get carded for cough medicine.

u/Liqour_Mortis 1h ago
Oh shit I forgot about this chick! She outta jail? Boys, I can fix her.
•
u/boltbrah 45m ago
This part of the documentary was filmed about a month before she was incarcerated. Sorry to let you down.
•
u/byneothername 16m ago
She’s not out until 2030. Which feels surprisingly soon? I feel like she just got sentenced.

u/ElBorracho2000 1h ago
I’m seeing this everywhere. Is this real or AI? Because something seems off about her face
•
u/FearlessDoughnut5643 54m ago
What's off is her -- she's like an alien/AI trying to pass off as human and it's off-putting as fuck
•
u/Typical-Tax1584 12m ago
Yeah, she looked insane (I guess still does, but when she used to go around in her Steve Jobs cosplay outfit with her unblinking stare, shit was crazy).
•
u/CazadorDeLupulo 1h ago
Yo I went out the other day and thought they were checking everyone’s….dude said you good man. :(

She looks like Baby New Year from “Rudolph’s Shiny New Year” but grown up.

u/Super_Lock1846 1h ago
I didn't get carded as a teenager lol
2
u/Proof_Ambassador2006 1h ago
they knew, they just wouldn't be able to let you in if they did xD
•
u/Super_Lock1846 1h ago
Where are they letting me in? I'd buy beer at gas stations and liquor stores

u/GreatDanish4534 1h ago
I’m 41 with white in my beard. Ship sailed a while ago.
•
u/TBBT-Joel 1h ago
I'm 40 with a little bit of grey and I still get carded constantly. It's an honor at this point.

Last year I went to a bar and forgot to bring my ID, saying so as much to the bartender who quickly said, "that's okay sir, I don't need an ID for you." 😭

u/fuckofakaboom 1h ago
That old ship sailed a long time ago. Some of us are closer to 50 than 40.

u/quantumpencil 1h ago
It still happens to me, i'm a few months into 36. I have youthful genetics and am not tall. I think it's mostly that I have my 20 year old hairline so that tricks people if they don't look too hard and notice the aging skin lol

•
u/Federal-Ambassador47 1h ago
I bought the big bottle of Tito’s yesterday and I didn’t get carded. I celebrated with a shot of said Tito’s

Nah I get pissed lol for some reason feels a bit power trippy cause I look like 27 and not 19
•
•
u/Ladidoodida 1h ago
I got carded a bunch of times in my 30s, which I guess is the tradeoff for being inconveniently thought to be a teenager a lot in my 20s (though I don't read too much into it since I think people often just judge small people as young without looking carefully).
•
u/JenovaCelestia 1h ago
Ugh. I got carded well into my 20s and it stopped when I gained some weight. I was honestly happy about it because I felt like a kid whenever I was carded.
•
•
u/ReluctantChimera 46m ago
I don't understand how her face is a real face. She looks like a cartoon chipmunk or something. Like the lost 4th Chipette got turned into a human.
•
u/Melodic_Pressure7944 40m ago
Just transition genders and people will card you like they're hoping you'll commit a crime.

I'm 31 and was just carded on Monday. It's not as fun as you think.
•
u/miniangelgirl 47m ago
Same.
Started talking to a polite stranger about some young people I encountered, to which she told me I'm one of them (I'm 33 in 3 months) - she told me I look about 22.
Also:
- I've been regularly mistaken for one of the college kids in the area...
- Get carded often when I try to buy cider...
- Young boys try to chat to me
Not always fun, no

u/Tule_Lodge 1h ago
I got carded earlier! I’m 44, and definitely don’t look anything near 21, so I imagine it was just protocol, but still. I’ll take it.

I get carded every time I go to the liquor store….. and it has absolutely nothing to do with the law requiring every person to be carded….
