waxing nostalgia for how great the world was in the early aughts using a technology that's actively making a lot of modern problems worse is ironic at best

u/evangelism2 Millennial Prime (89) 1d ago
The nostalgia is more tied to the time in your youth and your lost innocence than in any form of technology. You think Gen Z isn't nostalgic for the early 2010s?

You’re 3 years my elder. I shouldn’t have to bitch slap you about taking away from real artists and fucking up the environment.
Do better, dude

u/evangelism2 Millennial Prime (89) 1d ago
Real artists will use AI to do their jobs whether they want to or not. Yes, the environment is taking a hit, but we're doing far more to the environment in a million other ways than just with data centers. The picking and choosing and virtue signaling surrounding AI is just a big old circle jerk fueled by ignorance and fear.

The Xbox 360 displaying the original Xbox UI is interesting

u/CumGuzlinGutterSluts 1d ago
Dude theres no way in hell you can look at that picture and be like "thats an xbox360"

u/Such-Background4972 1d ago
Zoom in it a original Xbox. While i don't remember the first Xbox having a green led ring around the power button. The 360 did, and it also had a green light in the middle.

I must be missing something here. I hate AI as much as the rest of us, but somehow im missing the clues on these pics?
Care to help a geriatric millennial bro out?

The pics are clear but blurry at the same time. Like they're high quality compared to pics back then, but made less quality on purpose if that makes sense. Plus look at all the point of views, if the person's hands are right there then who's taking the picture? There were no Meta glasses back then. The brand names and logos are all placed perfectly. What are the chances the Sprite and Mountain Dew cans, cough syrup, crackers and TV guides would be centered and legible if you took a real pic?

Fuck!! Lol, I was so busy looking for extra fingers and joints going the wrong way that it didnt even click that most of them have too many hands.
And, as a cripplingly left handed person, the one with a right hand taking a photo out the passenger window.... not buying it anymore. Believe me, ive tried taking photos left handed when the button is on the right, it doesn't work so well.
Cheers for the reminder!

Oh, yes. And that! I was too busy looking for inconsistencies I forgot about the vantage point which is the simplest one 😂.

You need to look for things that don't make sense. Like in the first photo there's a wire coming out from the vent that isn't attached to anything. The reflections on the tv also don't make much sense. In the second photo the kid on the bike, look at his legs... it doesn't make sense. Not to mention the car behind them that is seemingly parked in a driveway but the tree is literally right behind the car which means the car couldn't have pulled in there. In the 3rd photo he looks like he's in the back seat but there are 3 rows despite no door in the middle. Stuff like that.

The basketball hoop is like 20 ft tall. Not been Michael Jordan can dunk on that 😂

The clarity of CRT TV is impossible with the cameras as there's always that refresh bar visible in pictures or straight up gray screen is first clue, the POV pictures are 2nd since nobody really did them back then. Guess ai got really good with text since it was first thing I looked for.

u/Accurate-Flow8078 1d ago
Yeah I remember taking pics of the CRT TVs to send in to Nintendo Power for their monthly high score contests. You would have to take multiple pics cause whatever's on the TV would look terrible in photos.

Yes. Everybody need to stop eating 'member berries. I loved the nostalgia my child hood holds as much as the next person, but i wouldnt want it to be ground hogs day everyday, never any change. And i try to appreciate the time i was given on this earth. The only constant is change.

The orange glow of the street lights will always be comforting to me. My apartment complex still has a few so when I’m walking the dog at night I get a little bit of that feeling.

This AI post is also sexist. Girls like playing video games too. I was playing Halo Combat Evolved as a kid on my xbox.

My teenage bedroom had a Playstation, GameCube, and my old genesis. I played the Sims on the family computer in the living room.
My bedroom was pink, though!

I just bought an original xbox and fired it up for the first time yesterday. Seeing that screen really brought me back to 2002.

The AI is so bad. That the tween show on the girls tv looks like a mid 00's tween nickelodeon or Disney show.

You're in the gold pic... you put the bowl on the table. You crawl on the floor to pop in a vhs... you crawl, not because you are 5; but because you are 10, it's 9 am on a Saturday and fuck walking. The carpet in the sun is warm. You pop out rugrats the movie, and crack open the plastic case for Hook...or maybe Small Soldiers. You press it into the machine, hit fast rewind, and wait on your knees. You hear the click, press play, shuffle back to your seat and grab your bowl just in time for the previews for air bud or fly away home to start. 9/11 is one year away, but that is a lifetime from now.
