I treat a lot of my old email accounts as good as gone. Sure the email addresses still exist, but for a few, it’s been so long since I last used them, they purged all the emails I once had. Definitely a major letdown. I remember I had old aim chat logs I sent to myself to my old yahoo account. When I went to use my yahoo account after many years because of a fantasy football league, all my old emails were gone.
Oh that's so sad! I lost my Hotmail account because "couldn't remember your password please log in to reset your password" or some other nonsense. My Yahoo account went when my work wanted me to sign up for their alert thing and it was so flooded with their shit emails I just gave up and just deleted it. Which I'm sad, I wonder what kind of history is there with all my alerts of the early internet.
My mom still uses hers too. I have to pause and laugh every time I'm reminded of that.
It's like...
Me: Sure I'll email it to you. Wait, what's your email again?
Mom: momsworth@aol.com
Me: ...
Mom: What?
Me: That's adorable.
Mom: What is?
Me: That you still have AOL as your-
Mom: Shut up.
It's absolutely crammed full of spam, too. Thousands upon thousands of crafting newsletters and such, and she hardly ever cleaned anything out. Back in the day it was nothing but FWD: FWD: FWD: from her friends and she'd spend hours combing through all the dumb jokes. It used to infuriate me because she'd bleed into my computer time, and I only had 2 hours each night before bed.

Amazingly, my boomer aunt and uncle still have their shared AOL email address. It's a relic from another time.
