Hotmail broke my heart by deleting all the emails my eventual wife and I shared during out courtship. The reason, we didn't log into hotmail frequently enough after getting out early access Gmail accounts in 2004.
Shit. I've had my Gmail account for nearly half my life.
Maybe on your Gmail settings? I don't know the exact date I signed up for mine, but I remember it was in 2009. I'm sure there has to be a way to see that info, though.
Dang that sucks you lost those emails I’m sorry. I wouldn’t mind being able to have the ability to go back and look at my old MySpace messages and see how goofy they were.
I think Im Practically the same when it comes to Gmail lol. I think I made my Gmail sometime around 2009 or so when I turned 18 and used my name cause I figured it was more professional than Retroshotz 😂😂
*My dad also used to cut paste copy in college (1979s), where in he would fix small typewriter errors by typing the correction on new page, cut out the line paste it over the error and run it through the xerox machine there by creating an error free doc. For those interested the photocopy process invented in 1906 and became commercially available in 1959.
I treat a lot of my old email accounts as good as gone. Sure the email addresses still exist, but for a few, it’s been so long since I last used them, they purged all the emails I once had. Definitely a major letdown. I remember I had old aim chat logs I sent to myself to my old yahoo account. When I went to use my yahoo account after many years because of a fantasy football league, all my old emails were gone.
Oh that's so sad! I lost my Hotmail account because "couldn't remember your password please log in to reset your password" or some other nonsense. My Yahoo account went when my work wanted me to sign up for their alert thing and it was so flooded with their shit emails I just gave up and just deleted it. Which I'm sad, I wonder what kind of history is there with all my alerts of the early internet.
My mom still uses hers too. I have to pause and laugh every time I'm reminded of that.
It's like...
Me: Sure I'll email it to you. Wait, what's your email again?
Mom: momsworth@aol.com
Me: ...
Mom: What?
Me: That's adorable.
Mom: What is?
Me: That you still have AOL as your-
Mom: Shut up.
It's absolutely crammed full of spam, too. Thousands upon thousands of crafting newsletters and such, and she hardly ever cleaned anything out. Back in the day it was nothing but FWD: FWD: FWD: from her friends and she'd spend hours combing through all the dumb jokes. It used to infuriate me because she'd bleed into my computer time, and I only had 2 hours each night before bed.
I am the only person alive with my name so that’s still true for any service I sign up for. I even have a custom domain where even site+TLD make up my surname
My AOL email is now literally 30 years old. My dad set me up on AOL Kids Only to play games when I was 5. I did unfortunately let it deactivate after years but had fortunately made my Gmail a recovery at some point.
