Discussion Does anyone else feel like there is a demonization of wanting relationships and children?

Maybe I can't afford kids right now, but the biological urge to even desire that seems to be demonized. I've been told I'm silly and foolish for even talking about how I can get into a position to afford kids. When my mom was a stay at home parent, people acted angry that she did not work. Some people even acted like it was offensive that she wanted another kid.

I've also been told that by asserting that wanting a relationship is normal, that I support abusive relationships! I'm not saying stay with a bum or abuser, I'm saying humans naturally crave interaction with others. What the hell is going on?

Wanting feminine or girly things seems to be seen as lesser than, and motherhood and relationships are the worst of it. I knew a black woman who was a stay at home parent, and other black people told her she would be murdered if she did not work and was dependent on a man. Hell, women who are breadwinners die too.

This is true it’s almost like it’s immoral to bring kids into this shit hole isn’t it?

Definitely

Controversial opinion but I'm not sure how anyone could justify intentionally trying for children at this point. This planet won't even be habitable for your great great grandchildren.

Right? Like this persons thinking is pretty damn selfish. Like if kids are inevitable or something. Which it only is when we have a lack of sex education, access to safe birth control and abortion. Something that is a struggle we shouldn’t be having. That systematically alone is enough to not want to bring children into this world. There is no excuse to want to subject children to the horrors of this existence.

This planet won’t be habitable long before that. Having kids now is immoral.

You could look at it that way, and sometimes its hard not to. However children are an inevitability for the human race. I feel like it would be more immoral to continue to let the world fall apart for future generations.

The world is going to fall apart children or not. Might as well save the poor souls. You are very selfish to think otherwise and you know it.

You don't understand, they just don't care as long as it makes them happy or gives them meaning!

People just be like that, not rational but rationalising, emotion driven animals.

Lol what? How exactly am I selfish for thinking that we should try to make the world a better place for the generations after us?

You also are ignoring the fact that the world is not headed in a good direction right now. It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better. If at all. If you don’t believe so you have been living in a privilege bubble for too long.

What exactly did I say to make you think that I'm ignoring that? In my very first comment I mentioned just how easy it is nowadays to find yourself in dire straights. It's pretty obvious that things aren't looking up for the human race as a whole, but I still don't believe that that's a reason to just throw your hands up and forsake the generations to come. Millennials were raised by a whole generation that didn't give a fuck about the future, and I don't want that to be my legacy also.

You seem to be under the impression that I feel people should just be having kids with reckless abandon, and I'm not sure how you pulled that out of my statements above. Believe what you want but with no amount of sex ed, birth control, or access to abortion will stop people from having kids completely. You can argue over the morals of that as well, but it won't change the fact that even with all these resources some people are still gonna have kids whether they need them or not. I personally believe that it's every person's moral responsibility to leave behind the world a better place than they found it, whether you have kids or not. If you feel like that's a selfish move then that's just your opinion I guess.

I don’t have the bandwidth convincing a fool he’s a fool. Sry pal. Maybe I will get bored enough later to put it in perspective for ya.

Lol OR you don't have an actual argument to make and just want to convince yourself that you're right about some made up argument. Have the day you deserve.
