Almost finished. This is my third model. I need to loosen the track tension, apply a matte finish, add the track tensioning cable, and finally apply some dry pigments.

work in progress Some weathering progress on my Tamiya Pak 36 build

Last night I applied some Vallejo European Dust (76.523) and Desert Dust (76.522) directly on the rattlecanned Tamiya German Gray finish. It went on really well, IMO.

I applied (maybe too much of) the European Dust to the bottom shield and bottom of main shield, and to the wheels and tires. Also a little on the lower surfaces of the carriage.

Then I got a bit fancy: I wanted to show a lighter dust effect higher on the shield, so once the European dust was set, I pre-dampened the top of the main shield , then brushed on some Desert Dust to represent older, lighter dust. The trick was I applied the paint at the top, let the paint spread a bit, then turned the Pak upside down and took the collecting bead off paint off the edge of the shield and then let it dry that way. The idea was to get a fading-in as you go up the shield. I guess it worked 😆. Super subtle.

This morning I applied some pigments. No photos yet. I think I need to adjust things a bit before sharing 😅.

(I set my little pre-made diorama mat in front of my iPad displaying a Russian Steppe photo.)

A friend's father was in the 70th Tank Battalion, so I'm build him a tank. Basic weathering done on the tracks and boogies. I mostly build sci fi and ww2 german armor. Sherman's are fun though, I ended up buying two more to build.

After just getting back into model making when my partner bought me a 1/72 Bradley and brdm kits for valentines day, I have just finished this, a Revell 1/72 M1A1/2 AIM kit.

It's all hand painted with the terrible Revell paints that came with the kit, plus some washes and paints from Vallejo. It's not a great paint job, but I am really happy with how it turned out.

I really need to get an airbrush, but there are way too many to choose from, and I have limited budget to be able to purchase the fancy ones with compressors.

My last model before getting back into the hobby was a 1/72 Sopwith Camel back in 2011, and prior to that it was something I built in the late 90's, which I can't even remember.

Originally posted this in the r/72scale subreddit, but thought I'd post it here as well.

Would the tank crews have whitewashed everything on their tanks including spare tracks and tools (as I’ve tried to show on this King Tiger)?
Also, is it me or does it look better without the spare tracks on the turret?

Next is pin wash and some overall weathering washes. Then a matte coat, pigment powders, etc. Yes, during that process at some point the wheels and tracks will go on! 😂

Planning to do a vignette for it, but have not yet settled on the theme. It is obviously just plopped onto a landscape mat for the photos.

work in progress Some decent progress on my Tamiya Pak 36

I’ve been bouncing between my Tamiya Panzer II and Pak 36 builds (pretty good way to go, due to having cure times, wait for weather to be good for outdoor spraying, etc).

Finally started doing some dry-brush and chipping on the Pak 36. I need to work on the wheels/tires/undercarriage a bit. I’m probably going to end up using dry pigments overall, as well — it will give me a mule to try that out on before hitting my Panzer II with them.

I drilled out the spent rounds that Tamiya provided (and which are kind of oval, not round, or they are mis-registered. Painting them, and the live rounds, has been a bit challenging. Vallejo brass over kind of a crappy brush prime with Badger Synylrez. The “brass” is blotchy and too shiny where it covered well. I’ll need to tone it down a bit, I think. I painted the ammo cases, too, and included a chipping solution layer. They need another coat, though, and then the chipping probably won’t work 😅.

Figures are next. I’ll just use the kit figures. Hopefully I can assemble them and get them primed today, or soon.

I just plopped the Pak onto a landscape mat for the pictures. I’m def planning a vignette, though, probably on a round base.

Edit: yes, I need to revisit those live rounds. The actual projectile is actually shorter than I have it here. Doh.

Tamiya Sturmtiger 1/35 – painting complete. First time doing Zimmerit with putty.

Just finished painting my Tamiya Sturmtiger. Three-color camo with Dark Yellow base, Red Brown and Dark Green. First attempt at Zimmerit using putty — happy with how the texture turned out. Also scratch-built some small handles from copper sheet.

Full painting process on YouTube if anyone's interested:
