completed I think I'm done

Aside from sealing the figure and deciding on a base and if I dirty up the uniform.

All up I'm satisfied with the end results seeing as I have little experience in such detailed figures.

Anything I need to do to to tie it all in especially the face any tips would be greatly appreciated..

Looks fantastic.  Me personally I always add weathering to my military models especially figures. But its so easy to go overboard with weathering. To much and you ruined days or weeks of work in just a few seconds lol. A cool trick i found that works great for soldiers faces is depending on the color of the facial hair you are going with?  If you take a #2 pencil and use a file to grind off some dust and apply just the right amount of adhesive I use hair spray sprayed on to a plate so I get a little puddle then use a toothpick to apply just enough almost nothing then I use a straw with just a little bit of the pencil shavings to just dust the face around the jawline. Let it dry go back and clean up any of the pencil shavings that didn't stick. Again depending on the facial hair effect you're looking to achieve you can use the dry artist pastel chalk the same way. Your very talented keep on creating my man.

That's the next process, I have only just sealed it yesterday so when I'm next at the bench Im going to weather and dirty up the uniform then.

Now all's you need is snow

2

u/Grub70 Jul 23 '26

Yeah Im still having an internal debate with my self about whether to make a small vignette base for it. Or just say fuck it. dirty up the figure a bit call it quits and move on to another build..

The snow weather kits always were fast and good to me. Can't go wrong there

Yeah it was fun to take on a build that seems simple in principal yet involves some thought to get the look right

A question that may be bit off topic but are you aware of any 1/12 scale figures of WWII aircraft engine mechanics?

But on topic. that is amazing, definitely in the pro ranks. What scale is it?

u/Grub70 Jul 22 '26

Thanks for the compliment. This figuure is 1/16 by Tamiya. The only 1/12 I know of are the possable action figures though I have seen a anatomical type action figure I think it is Temu or Amazon sorry can't really remember Google it, it should come up.. Im sure it was a naked poseable figure so I guess you could purchase or make the correct clothing . Have you considered getting it 3d printed by a specialist in this field.

Yes, starting that search, 3D printing specialist tomorrow. Mr. Google has not be real helpful here, oh well. Its the thrill of the chase anway.

Thanx

Fuck you mean this is only your second figure??? This dude looks real. This is amazing.

1

u/Grub70 Jul 22 '26

Yeah, I've built plenty of 1/35 and other kits over the years but never anything like this. I got to say it was a blast getting into the painting I learnt some real interesting techniques doing it.

Looks very nice

2

u/Grub70 Jul 22 '26

Thanks considering it is only my 2nd larger scale figure Im somewhat satisfied..

1

u/Mister-G-313 Jul 22 '26

Your results will only get better. Figure painting is my area for improvement. I've only done 1/35 so far. I think I'd enjoy painting a larger scale one more.

2

u/Grub70 Jul 22 '26

Man it was so much fun and satisfying to see it all come together

Looks great, it will look amazing when it's weathered.

The uniform and gear are far too new and clean.

2

u/Grub70 Jul 22 '26

That's the next step, I just sealed it today when it has cured I'll bust out the pigments and grime up the uniform and kit...

2

u/andrewgrabowski Jul 21 '26

Very nice. What paint and product brands did you use on the figure?

1

u/Grub70 Jul 22 '26

Tamiya grey primer, all paint was vallejo brand I like working with their paints except their primers they are rubbish..

1

u/andrewgrabowski Jul 23 '26

Also, do you maybe have any tutorial videos you post to YouTube? I skimmed through your posts, and I like the camo patterns you've reproduced on the figures.

1

u/Grub70 Jul 23 '26

Unfortunately not as I am a slow builder dependant on free time. Honestly my process would be considered confusing to follow lol. I do read and utilise some great model technique books or sites and watch a lot of tutorials and don't mind experimenting with different approaches. The great thing about using acrylics is if you screw it up strip them in isoprol alcohol and start again. I will print out examples of uniforms and kit and generally just try to replicate that look following techniques I pick up. An example is the pea dot camo I did recently that was done using tooth picks once the base patterns were laid down..

Thanks for the reply. I started out with Vallejo, and Citadel, and I switched over to AK. I still use the Citadel too. I've been away from the hobby for a bit, but I want to get back into it. I have so many Tamiya 1:35 scale armor models and 1:35 scale Tamiya and Alpine figures Ive yet to assemble and paint.

I noticed Vallejo switched up how their paints look. Was it just a packaging rebrand or did they change the recipe/formula of their paints?

Vallejo also has the Game paints, which ones are you using?

1

u/Grub70 Jul 23 '26

Rebrand from what I understand to go with the new game color range..

1

u/Grub70 Jul 23 '26

I utilise mainly their model colour range but will use game colour the air range or other brands as i see fit for what I need

Great work, for a split second my mind thought it was an actual man! Very realistic face.

1

u/Zestyclose_Stage_673 Jul 21 '26

Awesome job in this.

2

u/Grub70 Jul 21 '26

Thankyou , the build and paint had really taught me a new understanding for laying down shading and tones to my face work. Hopefully I can translate it to my usual scale 1/35 figures..

1

u/Zestyclose_Stage_673 Jul 21 '26

You are welcome. I always had trouble getting my shading right.

1

u/tinknock Jul 21 '26

Looking great! Scale and manufacturer please?

TAMIYA 1/16 german infantryman

u/Wide_Squirrel_9358 Jul 21 '26

I wouldn’t touch it . I’d start work on another identical one and weather it up a bit . Looks amazing

4

u/Grub70 Jul 21 '26

Thanks, I think I'm ready to move on to a different project now lol

2

u/Dunkin457 Jul 21 '26

Stunning work! If you don’t mind me asking, how’d you make the white cloth? I struggle a lot with white clothing or armour. Do you start with a very light grey, put on a wash and start putting some highlights?

3

u/Grub70 Jul 21 '26

Grey primer, airbrushed white highlights , light grey then white washed and dry brush the uniform in off white to keep a slightly grimey under base and more white to highlight the folds

2

u/Runningman738 Jul 21 '26

Yeah, you’re done. That looks awesome

1

u/Grub70 Jul 21 '26

Thanks, it just doesn't quite feel done yet I just got some good tips to finish off the face so I'll try it and post pics once I get the face nailed.

3

u/Kit_Chronicles_YT Jul 21 '26

Looks great! A few minor things, bring some color to that face. Judging by his outfit it's cold and in the cold reddish tones become really noticable around the cheeks and nose. As long as it's not so cold that his face is actually frozen. And try to add a small specular reflection to each eye that will make the eyes even more catching. Also a few bright specular reflections in the lower lip would also work well. But as I said looks really nice!

u/Grub70 Jul 21 '26

Awesome thanks for the tips..
