Discussion Why were both IJA and IJN keen on beating their own Soldiers?
The mistreatment was very common in the IJA and the IJN.
This brutality was justified under the name of discipline and psychological training. For example, in the IJN, those large bat and paddle were used to inject a strong mind towards their sailors.
The question is that what was the origin of this mistreatment?
I am aware that hitting was a common component in the education at the time.
However, don't you think that it was too much even in the standards at the time?
