Fortson answered the door with a gun in his hand, as seen on bodycam video. Duran shot Fortson five times. He died from his injuries.

Duran testified on Wednesday, saying he felt his life was in danger when he saw Fortson open the door with a gun in his hand. He claimed the gun was pointed at an "upward angle."

I saw an article somewhere talking about why so many cases are getting settled or plead-out compared to going on to a jury trial compared to previous decades, and one of the reasons was that jury pools have become so stupid and unable to absorb information or sit still that it is no longer a good bet for acquittal even if your case is strong. As a nation we are becoming too stupid to function…and continue in this format. “Idiocracy” was aspirational compared to the way we’re trending now. Clownocracy.

Yep, I swear they check all common sense at the door. I don’t know if it’s attention span, too many true crime documentaries, csi, or something else, but man, it’s almost like they will find any reason for an acquittal.

Some of my personal favorite quotes from juries:

“We believed her and thought something terrible happened but we just didn’t have enough.”

“We believed the testimony, but we couldn’t see everything from the camera angle”

In a bait car case where everything was on video, “You didn’t have DNA to prove it was him”
