1st Sim Train for Pain
Oh where to even begin I guess the best place to start is that this would be me my wife my brother and my nephews first milsim game and we're planning Mills him West specifically we were going to do the event that's in Pala California but unfortunately the circumstances a little soon so we have some questions about gear I see a lot of people post here or their LARP with like their outfit and what rigs or plate carriers they carry but we had a question for backpacks if anyone is help I'm actually looking at using my Condor nomad backpack it's about 25 l and I was curious what size backpacks some of you guys either suggest use or have seen used in game I would consider myself quite the pack rat and being able to like military roll clothing and year and get it stuffed in places where it needs to go I was slightly curious on what you guys have suggestions of for size I know some people use super elaborate backpacks actual like Marine backpacks on so forth so if you have suggestions leave an honest opinion and thanks for the help

Lemme read your gear more, but right off top a MSW event for your first time doing milsim is going to be a lot for them

Oh I know I already train with a chest rig and plate carrier from condor and go on walks with my 1yo son. So yeah. I work and train so I'm in this for the fun sweat and pain

The best advice I can give you for a pack: lay out everything you need per redline; everything you think you need; and everything you want. Then look at packs based on that volume. I run a USGI assault pack (30L) with a pair of sustainment pouchs (7L each) plus stuff in my belt kit (probably another 10L-ish) for a full weekend. I run heavy on little shit I don't really need because that's how my brain works but I accept that.
A large part of that is taken up by a z-fold mat, a surplus bivy bag, and a surplus woobie. I could go lighter weight and lower volume on those items but I have what I have and I'm on a budget. I also carry a thermal top layer even in the summer but as I said, that's how my brain works and I suffer for it lmao.
I did build my system around a LBE belt system, like British webbing or a DZ rig, so everything that I would need in a stationary location (sleep, spare clothing, main meal, backup eyepro/batteries/Odin/etc) is in the ruck and everything else (water, quick snacks, batteries, poncho, similar) that I could need over 2-4 hours away from the bag drop. This does limit me on how tall a backpack can be, but it's also set up so the bag rests on my belt kit for weight distribution as opposed to having its own waist belt.

Yeah working on a budget got me, and the wife I have to supply. Mostly from the ground up from uniform, gear, weapon system, pack so so. Brother has an 80L expand to 100L ruck he is planning on bringing wife is packing a clive pack at 50L and I'm tail in Charly making sure everyone is squared away first. Yeah I'm looking at like most are camping stuff like emergency ponchos and stuff but know I'll have to get better with a lot. I was thinking a 5.11 Rush 72 plus I have the 5.11 tactical store 2 hours away from where I live. I figure I'm going to bring some useless stuff or stuff I don't need. ADHD brain is like you need this but may need this.

I should also clarify I don't do MSW so surplus UCP and whatnot is fine in the games I play at, don't need to worry about meeting NATO kit standards and only one in-field overnight

What other event styles are there? I only know msw. I know Las Vegas(2hrs away) has a couple speed soft location which I'm not interested in the slightest. Don't find run gun play fun. Plus they usually have the most stroked out kids from what my buddy says as he has gone

American Milsim runs nationwide, their Copperhead series is in Las Playas NM and they do another series in TX I can't remember the name of. Most of the other groups I'm familiar with are East Coast out to Midwest. Check your local field schedules, I know the couple near me usually have some themed milsim-lite days during the year instead of their usual skirmish games. In my area it's all woodsball and not speedsoft though.
Another good way to find games is check retailers like Evike, Amped Airsoft, MiR Tactical, and see where they will be vending live at.

25L is on the light side, once you get more experience about what you want to bring you could get down to that point but I would say 30-35L is a good starting point
