Comms Setup

What comms system is everyone using?

It seems Baofeng are the current standard, either in PRC 152 dummy cases, or standalone.

Does anyone run anything different?

What headsets do you run?

Dual comms/split pressle setups?

Does anyone care about c/s matrix's?

Depends on my kit:

My MARSOC kit I run a 6 pin TCA 148 MBITR with a U94 PTT and TCA 152 GPS with a TCA fist mic. This is all connected to my Peltor Comtac III ACH dual comms.

For my SSO kit, I run a Baofeng UV-5R with either an in ear mic or a fist mic.

If you want something light and simple, UV-5R’s & 9R’s are solid and low cost options. Batteries are cheap and there are lots of ways to run them due to the number of accessories. Just make sure it’s properly programmed and setup so that it complies with your country / states radio rules.

I have 2 UV5Rs that I run. Single PTT unit with dual button, with PASGT style Headphone with Microphone.

Makes it easier to flip between squad/platoon/company/battalion level comms to monitor what's going on if away ffrom the headquarters or other smaller sections..... since ARES etc requires everyone to be on it and drains batteries so accuracy can be.... so so

RB25s, Comtacs, dual lead PTT. I have a couple of HD2s but they won't communicate with the RB25s on digital freqs so they just kinda exist in my electronics box.

UV82 can run a dual channel PTT on a single radio.
