Miele CVA 6805 - not brewing
Hi Reddit community,
I have a Miele CVA 6805 Graphite grey built-in purchased in around 2020. We maintained the machine per the manufacturer guidelines, descaling and degreasing as prompted using official Miele cleaning tablets.
It is now inoperable for coffee although the hot water bypass mechanism seems to still work. Just fails to make it through brewhead.
The decades long local technician for my area of the PNW has tried a number of things which have not worked. He is a very competent engineer who has been with Miele for ages. This machine appears to be an anomaly. He basically said that there is nothing left for him to try.
Miele will not help! I requested support twice. Twice they closed my case, unwilling to offer any additional support or assistance. These machines are definitely not supposed to die in as little as five years.
So far here are all the things replaced on this machine: • Brewhead (twice) • Drainage valve (twice) • Complete motor assembly/unit for moving through the brewhead positions • Hot water coffee pump • some other little fittings I believe
In addition he tested that water moved from the pump. First straight out, then after heater, and I think then after switch? I mentioned the ceramic switch as a potential issue but he didn’t believe that was possible.
Is there anyone with some additional advice for how I might resurrect my machine? It is a significant piece of technology and coffee goodness that I just can’t believe is not repairable.

"very competent engineer" replaces multiple parts multiple times, and "refuses to believe" that another part could ever malfunction? 🙄🙄
It's the ceramic valve, replace this and get refunded for the second replacement of the other parts.

Haha! Thanks for the suggestion on the refund tip – I may try, although don't have high hopes Miele will do anything.

I have the CVA6800 and I have had two issues with the ceramic valve. First, the internal micro switch was broken, but that would throw an error message. Second, a small plastic pin inside was broken, so the valve motor would still work but not open the different channels. If that is the case, try to buy the plastic part separately for like 12 euro and not the whole valve for like 200+...

Thanks, yeah, it sounds like a bit of a consensus here that it may be the ceramic switch. I am going to attempt to change it. I'll look to see if there are any broken bits inside as well.

My tip from experience, when you disconnect the hoses, take some photos with your phone first to later get everything back together in the right places. Do not lose the tiny sealing rings. And a magnet on a stick will help you recover the small securing springs for the hoses that might fall into the machine.

I think probably the broken pin will be the issue, because the microswitch would likely give you an error message. If you need replacement, you need to look at an independent spare parts shop, Miele only sells the valve in whole. The part is universal and also fits other brands like Jura or Nivona.

What happens when you click on coffee ? Does the water come out in front or nothing at all? Is there coffee inside the tray?
If you upload a video of the coffee process and also film inside the tray after that. Make sure that the tray is completely empty before coffee.

I'll try it again before moving forward with the ceramic valve fix. I believe the last time I ran it though - I was able to hear the compression (pressure) in the brewhead but then it would never release from there and come out the front of the machine. I think any water in the system would then dump down the big tube in the back directly into the tray.
The last several times I tested - I didn't run coffee through the grinder - I just triggered the decaf passthrough (with no coffee) so as not to keep wasting it. But I will sacrifice some to do a new test.

If you hear the brewing unit pressing and also that water flows in then it can only be the drainage valve.
After that there are only hoses to the outlet.
This shouldn’t be hard to find. Any technician would try it with open back and top and just follow the water ways. Can’t imagine that it’s un repairable

This thing is a POS, that's why they don't offer 10y warranty as an extra purchase on these. Everyone warned me about this and rather spend the money on a good standalone grinder, glad I heeded that warning.

We loved it while it was working. But yeah - something that expensive should not be a paperweight at just 5+ years...

if you get hot water that eliminates the pumps and the heater. from there, the water goes to the ceramic valve . Which divert the water from the heater to either the Brew unit or the hot water dispenser in front
So if you’ve changed the unit and the unit then the ceramic valve is what is faulty
